Travelling as a couple
Do you prefer to travel just the two of (if you're part of a couple) or with friends too?
I'm planning a weekend bday trip and it can either be just us all the time, or we can meet up with friends. Just curious.
I know this may be moved, oh well.

Re: Travelling as a couple
I think it depends on the destination. If it's a ski or outdoor excursion I would prefer to do it with friends since the more the merrier.
However, if it's some romantic getaway like to Hawaii or some beach vaca, definitely go alone with just the SO.

Re: Travelling as a couple
Just about all my trips are with DH. Sometimes I go visit friends by myself and sometimes a group of my friends and I have a girls weekend. But most of the time it's DH and myself.

Re: Travelling as a couple
I put Alone, together, but technically it's Other, since DC always come with us. We tried doing stuff with other people, but DW and I get into a groove, and we know what we like, when we like, and having other people involved usually messes with our routine.

Re: Travelling as a couple
I go on vacation to get away from other people, so I prefer to just be with DH. Now that we are having a baby, I can see that changing in the future, but we'll see what happens.

just us - in general. i think when you go with a group there are too many people involved with the where to stay, what to do, etc. and it can get difficult.

ITA. It gets too hard agreeing on dinner locations, eating times, where to go, what to see, when to get up....I need stress-free vacations!

Re: Travelling as a couple
it depends. For the most part we travel alone. Two years ago we went to Vegas with two other couples and we had a great time. During the day we all kind of went our separate ways as everyone had different interests while there, but we always met up for brunch first and then dinner and evening entertainment.

Re: Travelling as a couple
We have done both but I think it depends on the type of vacation. If it is just to an island to lay on the beach and relax I would say just a couple but if it is more of a sightseeing adventure type vacation then it is always nice to have another couple or friends there to break it up a bit!

Re: Travelling as a couple
I answered both - we did a group trip to dallas for a football game, made a weekend out of it and had a blast! would def do it again. Have done cruises as a group - awesome, but more romantic ones should be alone.

Re: Travelling as a couple
We perfer to go away together- we can do more things that we like that way instead of having to clear it with others
We have been away alone 4 times and with family 2 times and both has it pros and cons...sometimes it is nice to have a dinner conversation with someone besides DH

Re: Travelling as a couple
I went to Europe last summer...by myself...and LOVED IT! The first 1/3 of the trip was with a tour group, so I, for the most part, stayed with the group. But daily excursions were optional so when i wanted to go off on my own, i did.
The other 2/3 of the trip was strictly solo and loved every second of it. SPent a week in Paris (stayed with a friend who had to work every day). Took a 10 minute train ride into Paris every day. Sat on the steps of the Lourves and watched the sun set. Had lunch in a small cafe near the Notre Dam. Wrote in my journal. Took pictures.

Re: Travelling as a couple
We have mostly travelled alone, but we have done trips with friends. I think it really depends on the destination and the group of friends. We went away with one of DH's friends and his girlfriend at the time once, and we would probably never go on vacation with him again. He's a great guy and tons of fun, but he's too "ants in the pants" for us. We like to do a lot of relaxing and he gets bored easily. We would probably only travel with him again if it was with a large group of people and we could pawn him off on others.

Re: Travelling as a couple
I wrote other. We are lazy planners and love to be invited on people's vacations. One of our favorite vacations was with a couple who invited us on their honeymoon
When its just the two of us, we have a good time as well.
