Just a quick quest for the mommies to be...

I was wondering...for those of you who work, after your maternity leave (however long your job gives you) are you going back to work, or are you going to be a f/t stay at home mom? If you are going back to work, are you sending you child to daycare, or you have a family member to watch the baby, or other??

This is just something I was thinking about before I make any major decisions, I was just curious as to what most people do. Thanks!

I am milking my leave, in CT we get 16 weeks FMLA. I then plan on going back, hoping my job will let me work 1 day a week from home. I only have my bro up here in CT with me, so the baby will be in daycare.

I have recently opened up my own business with a friend of mine so that my schedule can be flexible when the baby comes. When the time comes for me to head into the office my grandmother will be caring for him.

My baby will come with me, I'm lucky enough to work in a privately owned store and the owner has "adopted" my baby as one of her grandchildren!! My grandma might also be moving down from NY, so I'll have her to babysit for me if she doesn't come to work with me too!!

I plan on going back to work FT after maternity leave is done. I also will take the full 3 month leave. Luckily, my mother and sister in law will be watching him when I go back. I would love to be a stay at home mommy but financially it would not be possible.

My maternity leave takes me through the end of June and since I work in a school district I wouldn't have to go back until September. I'm thinking that after September I might go back to work part-time, but I'm not really sure yet when and how much I will go back to work. I don't have any family near by so if I go back to work I'll have to find some kind of day care.

I am the Controller for My father's Company so I really don't have to be there everyday. I will be returning to work after about a month or so...But only VERY part time at first..A few hours a day, just a few times a week. Then after a month of that I will be returning about 3 days a week and working from home if I have to. On the days I'm in the office my mom will be watching the baby. I can't complain...Same pay and getting the best of both worlds!

I am going back to work FT. I will probably put the baby in daycare or hire a nanny.

I am taking 6 weeks maternity leave, and then working from home 2 days a week. I will have to commute to the city for 3 days a week - we are going to hire a nanny, and see how it goes.

For now, since I am currently not working...I plan on being a "Stay @ Home Mom". I might come June or July go back to work per-deim. That is basically "on-call" work, so I will work the days my DH can watch him or my sister too might be able to take him a few days. I am in no hurry to get back.

I'm a SAHM. Before Sarah I was working for a non-profit organization and my salary didn't cover daycare for an infant, let alone my working expenses (commuting, dry cleaning, lunch, etc.).

Good luck with your decision. It's not easy!

I will be home for 3 months then going back to work 3 days a week per diem. My mother in law will be watching him those 3 days.

Right now I am a SAHM. My leave was up on Friday because I was out for 6 weeks before I delivered due to high BP.
I filed for personal leave until February and then I plan to work 2 nights a week from 2-10pm (I'm a pharmacist so that's easy to do). From 1-5pm those days my mom will watch the baby until DH gets home.

Wow! Alot of SAHM's here. I hope I can pull that off as well. I know day care can be VERY expensive!

After we moved to PA...I quit my job in NYC 6 months later and got a part time job...if I kept this part time job I'd be working just to pay daycare...

I plan on seeing my clients at home after the baby is born, and MAYBE going back to the spa like every other Sunday, but we'll see...
