Another BF question...

My DH and I notice that we can hear DD stomach rumbling, I guess it's her bowel sounds. Is that normal? Also, do BF babies need to be burped as much as formula/bottle fed babies? TIA!

Re: Another BF question...

Burp your baby after he nurses from the first side. After he's done with the other breast, burp him again. I don't think the rumbling noises are a big deal.
Congratulations on breast feeding!! I had a helluva time in the beginning. If you have any more questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: Another BF question...

They still need to be burped. However, in the hospital they told me not to freak if he doesn't burp. They said BF babies typically burp less.

My DS always has tummy rumblings when he's eating. I swear he digests one batch so quickly that the next batch is welcomed with a party in his tummy.

Re: Another BF question...

i honestly hardly ever burped hannah, bc when i did all the time in the beginning, NOTHING would come out. i guess i got lucky, she wasnt gassy or burpy....i account it for the BFing....and by 4 months, i really wasnt burping ever...

My son's tummy rumbles like crazy at times...its perfectly normal.

As far as burping goes, as the above posters mentioned...BF babies burp a lot less than bottle fed babies since they acquire a lot less air when being fed. I even notice this with my son...when I BF him and when I bottle feed him I get a different burp.

I hardly ever burped DD either because she used to fall asleep while nursing all the time in the beginning. But I was lucky and she wasn't a gassy baby.

My DD's belly was always gurgling. She had a lot of gas and I had a terrible time getting it out. She had colic too which is not as common for a BF baby as it is for a formula fed baby.

Re: Another BF question...

My dd stomach does that, and i can actual feel it in her bowels.. when i hold her i can feel it drop down its weird. The nurse at the hospital told me, burping isnt always need when bfing off the breast, b/c no air going into stomach. I still try and burp her, but i dont worry if she doesnt.
