New Orleans Jazz Festival

DH has expressed interest in going to NO for the Jazz Festival. I went to the web site and they have a dozen hotels listed. has anyone gone to the jazz festival? Does anyone have specific hotel reocmmendations? I am completely clueless about New Orleans. Have never been there and dont know anything about neighborhoods. Anyone been there since Katrina. Are there any places I SHOULD stay away from? All help is greatly appreciated!

I went to the Jazz Festival. It was an amazing time. A lot more low key than Mardi Gras. I stayed at a holiday inn in the French quarter. If I were to go again I would stay as close to the French quarter as possible. It is in walking distance of everything and still really safe.

My favorite hotel there is the Omni Royal on St. Louis - exquisite. I have also stayed at the Inn on Bourbon a few years ago when it was called something else - it was super convenient and was very nice. My BIL stayed and enjoyed the Royal Sonesta.

We once stayed at the Maison Dupuy and would not recommend it - it's a couple of blocks off Bourbon in the wrong direction. It was ok but my sister & I didn't feel safe walking there without our spouses.
