Has anyone cruised before DC was 1?

We are going on a cruise at the end of December and DS will be 8 months old and is bottle fed. He has used the drop ins before, but he really doesn't eat well from them.

I really don't want to be using them for a week, plus he takes 8oz at a time and the drop ins I have are only 6oz.

If you did bring DC on a cruise before they were one, what did you do about bottles?

Re: Has anyone cruised before DC was 1?

We went at the beginning of the month. My son turned 11 months on the ship. We usually use Dr. Browns but they have to many pieces to wash so I bought Nuby bottles and introduced them a week before, as for washing I brought a bottle brush and soap and washed them in the room with the tap water(which is purified).
Any other ? don't hesitate.
Have a great time

I thought of doing that too...but my mom yelled at me that they wouldn't be any type of sterile....and told me I should really use the drop insChat Icon

We use Avent and VentAires, the Avents are pretty easy to clean....and he is on Gentlease, so its powder only...

We are on RC Navigator of the Seas, I wonder if there is a fridge...

Did you fly? Did you bring diapers?

Re: Has anyone cruised before DC was 1?

I probably would do the drop in's. Washing bottles in the sink could be a pain, although you will still have to wash nipples. Maybe introduce the drop in's more over the next few weeks so he gets used to it?

Oh and the drop in's are actually 8 ounces, the bottle markings only go up to 6 though. If you fill to the rim, that equals 8 ounces. They make those expandable liners up to 10ounces also so it makes it easier to prepare them if you prepare as you go.

Ok, I tried filling it to 8oz and it was a disaster and Chris and my mom still make fun of meChat Icon

He has to use silicone nipples (I am allergic to latex) do they come in more than just slow (too slow) and fast (too fast)??

Re: Has anyone cruised before DC was 1?

Yeah it's a bit of a mess to mix them in the bottle unless you get those expandables!!

They only make the two sizes unfortunately and that Y cut one. I'm not sure if that would work as an in between, you could always try it!

We are going on a cruise with DS and my parents in 2 weeks. He will be 7mths. I have been EBFing, but next week I am starting to introduce some formula. I use the Drop ins, but I'll have to experiment with them and formula. I did ask if there was a fridge and I was told yes. We are taking some diapers, but I am sure we will end up buying them while on shore.

We are leaving on December 31st. We are flying to Florida, but we aren't renting a car when we are there, so I think I am just going to pack a 40 pack of Luvs and then 7 overnight diapers....

Did you get a crib in your room?

We did and we brought the bottles, bottle brush and soap and cleaned them with hot water. I was never one to sterilize though so that wasn't an issue for me.

Re: Has anyone cruised before DC was 1?

We went on carnival and we did fly- I brought all the diapers I needed-I was told you can't always find the ones you want in the ports. I used antibacterial soap to wash the bottles. They were'nt sterile but thats how I wash them at home, we made out fine. Carnival gave us a crib in the room. Some cruise lines actually provide baby food and formula not sure if yours does but its worth a call to find out.

I would bring a small bottle for everyday of the cruise, wash and refill. You will probably not have a fridge, but you can possibly get one. Once my son had medication that needed refridgeration and they gave us one free of charge.

You will need to bring diapers on the ship, swim diapers too.

There will be no tub, so we brought a blow up tub which was perfect.
Enjoy!

He takes 8oz, so I don't think a small bottle would work, but thanks tho..

I have swim diapers...I wasn't sure if I was going to get the rest in Florida before we got on the ship or here in NY.

I think we will just shower with him, I really can't see bringing a blow up tub with us....I have too much crap as it isChat Icon

We cruised at 6 months. What ship are you going on? We did Carnival.
Heres a piece of advice...I brought a snap n go which barely fit through the cabin doors but if you have a small stroller that would probably work as well. I dont know how a regular size carriage would fit through the doorways. The bottles...I used evenflo..no bags.
Where are you traveling to? it was soooo much fun!!!!!!!!

Ooo, I can talk to you about it next weekChat Icon

We are taking Royal Caribbean and are going to Cozumel and Belize. There isn't much for us to do with DS, but we will go to the beach....we are going with 23 members of my family for my mom's 60th bday.

We are taking our Metrolite b/c I want him to be able to sleep in it, I guess DH will just fold it up before we go into the room and put it in the closet.

How many bottles did you bring??

We are planning on taking the Pack-n-Play. We are leaving from NJ so I thought that it might be best form DS to be able to sleep in a familiar place. As far as stroller, we are taking our Bee. It's really narrow so I think it will fit through the door. I didn't even think about that being an issue befroe now. Too much to think about and too much stuff to bring!!!! I think this will cure my overpacking issues though!!Chat Icon

Does you stroller fold up? I just figured I'd fold ours and put it in the closet, I've been on RC cruises before and the closets are decent sized.

What line are you cruising? Where are you guys going? Have you made plans for land stuff?

Yes, our stroller does fold. I guess we'll take it, but I figure I'll be wearing DS a lot of the time.

We are cruising in RCCL too. It's a 9 day cruise leaving from Bayonne. I honestly can't remember where it goes.Chat Icon It's our Christmas present from my parents (who are going with us as babysitters!!!). They offered the trip and I said yes no questions asked.
