How much do private nursery school teachers get paid an hr?

Im thinking of doing this and leaving my PS 3rd grade job

they don't make much at all. . . . i would say by the time taxes are taken out and all that, not much more than $10.00

unless you're really miserable, i would not leave a public school jbo to teach in a nursery school

perhaps you can look into public schools that have pre-K programs... there are more and more districts that have univeral Pre-K programs now.

and also take into consideration the age difference. you'd be going from 3rd to nursery. HUGE difference.

Im sure you know, but just saying from a BRIEF experience I had, just student teaching, I went from 3rd to 1st, and I was ready to take a nap at the end of the day. and nursery is only MUCH MORE exhausting than 1st. (theyre VERY dependent on the teachers for everything from tying shoes, to potty help (well sometimes buttoning stuff), lots of emotional attachments, separation anxiety, it will just be a HUGE adjustment.

have you ever worked in nursery before?

maybe try doing something on weekends in that age group to see how you like it to get an idea.

The private nursery school teachers make next to nothing. At one point I was considering this b/c I wasn't getting calls from other schools. The yearly salary was about 24k (full time). Also having taught 3rd & also nursery (3's) like the OP said, it is night/day difference. The 3's don't know what a line is; they need you for everything from putting on jackets to shoes to opening snacks to preparing any/all artwork projects. This year I have 4's & there is a big difference even from the 3's to 4. I would NEVER teach N again.

The positives as you are aware are: no paperwork (marking papers); no testing; not bound to the rigid structure of BofE.

However another negative is the lack of structure. All my lesson plans I need to research online & there is a lot of preparation

Please keep in mind you will also be losing your benefits which are $$$$.

But the real biggie, which everyone forgets, is the pension and your 403B. Over your career you are talking about the possiblity of hundreds and thousands of dollars lost just in retirement alone.
That's the difference btwn one standard of living and another post-retirement.
