Do you make your own pasta?

I'd love to make my own pasta b/c fresh pasta tastes so much better than boxed pasta. Is it easy to make? How much time does it take?

Do I need to buy a pasta maker? DH and I saw a pasta maker attachment for the Kitchen Aid mixer, but it seemed so expensive. Is it worth it or is there a cheaper alternative? TIA for your help.

it makes a mess on your counter Chat Icon but fresh DOES make yummy pasta Chat Icon

we only make it when we're making pierogis.... you have to mound flour on the counter, and add eggs and mix/ knead until it's a dough.

we have a $30 old-school crank pasta machine that clamps onto the countertop. It's always been sufficient for our purposes. I've never seen a less expensive one than that.

frankly, if you want italian style pasta, it's actually worth it to buy fresh pasta in the supermarket, since it takes so much time, and make so much of a mess.... (and this is coming from a woman who even roasts her own spices and makes her own curry powders!)

agreed. Buy fresh pasta. Much less mess and so yummy.

Well, last year I made my own ravioli. It took me over 2 hours to make 18 ravioli. That was 6 minutes a ravioli. I think it's cheaper to buy! Chat Icon

i have made my own ravioli (with giada's recipe). you use wonton wrappers instead of pasta.... we filled ours with a mixture of spinach, ricotta cheese, and proscuitto.

you put appx 1 tbsp of filling into the center of the wrapper, and brush egg whites on the edges, then fold over diagonally. cook each one in boiling water for appx 4 minutes (in batches)
