Ignorant Friend...

I actually got into a tif with a girlfriend the other night over IF. She said that she believes that many IF problems for women are all in the mind and due to stress. I have been told by the DR's that stress will affect you if it throws off your cycles but as long as you are still having normal cycles that it doesn't come into play. She was pretty much insisting that it's all in the mind and appeared to be a bit of a know it all.

People are so ignorant and should just keep their opinions to themselves when it comes to this type of thing. ESPECIALLY because she is not even married or even thinking about TTC.

I had a good friend tell me that maybe if I gained weight I'd get PG
She's always had body issues and I suspect she's always been jealous of my being thin - which actually was confirmed in a congrats card that she sent me when I told her I was PG. It said congrats, blah blah blah, and "EAT!"

Some people think they're being helpful, but are totally transparent

I do believe stress can play a factor but for so many of us with diagnosed IF it's not an issue any more.
Bottom line I don't have a problem getting pregnant because of stress, I have a problem because of my ovaries!

IF can be lonely at times I am def. finding that out....

Kathy I am so sorry your friend responded to you like that. I am sure she was trying to be helpful but people who have never gone through this just don't know what to say. Personally, I hate the saying "relax"....

I am taking a class, and this girl in it...said well maybe you should take a week's vacation and just relax....uh hello my first year of trying I did that. i was like whatever.
I just wanted to SLAP HER!!!!!

Thanks ladies. I too cannot stand it if one more person says RELAX. I hear you Diane...I did that the first 1 1/2 off BCP and look where that got me.

After my insurance changed I had to go to my new GP to get a referral for my RE. WHile in there the nurse was doing my temp and blood pressure and stuff and we got to talking small talk and she asked why I was in, once I told her the convo went like this:

she: how long have you been trying
me: two years
her: Did you ever think that you should just relax and stop stressign and then you will get preggo
me: I tried the whatever happens happens approach for a year, I tried the charting thing for a year...still nada...I think I am passed that.
her: I still think you should relax
me: and I still think you should get a clue and shut your mouth.

People are idiots. They really are. I am sorry you had to deal with yet another one.

At my first infertility consultation appt with my OB/GYN, I would up crying before I could even get my words out. I told her how long I'd been trying, using OPKs, etc, and her answer was also the famous, "You should just relax and it will happen." And she continues to say it every time I go in to see her. She's also the one that said she'd give me an HSG "if that will make you feel better, but i'm sure it's unnecessary." Hello, blocked tube diagnosis weeks later. Thank God for research available on the Internet!
