easy holiday gift to make for parents

Any suggestions on something very cheap and easy to make for parents.. I have first grade students.

I teach 1st grade too!! I am going to take pictures of each of them and then use colored craft sticks to make frames.

I bought glass votive candle holders and let the kids paint them in holiday colors.

then I coated them with mod-podge (?) to protect them and we put a scented votive in them and wrapped it up in tissue paper.

I have also done little wood boxes from Michael's and put their school picture in the center and let them decorate with platic jewels and paint and glitter glue.

ETA: oops...didnt realize you said 1st grade...this was with 3rd/4th graders

We made cinammon applesauce ornaments...they are pretty easy and smell great!

We made the flour ornaments & used cinnamin in them & they smell like cinnamon. They were simple & easy to make.

Do a search for flour & salt ornaments & a ton of recipes will come up. We used a straw to poke a hole in it to put a ribbon to hang on the tree.

I made it in front of them & had them come up to add cinnamon & to smell it & to help stir it & they cut it w/ the cookie cutter, but I rolled the dough out & then made the hole in it. We called kids over 1 by one. This was Pre-K.

They require baking, but we just put ours on the window ledge & they dried in 2-3 days.

Then when they were dry we had them paint them & then I put polyurehthene on them so they shine.

I just did some applesauce ornaments today...they are easy and smell soo yummy!

I have also done snowmen out of Model Magic.

Also, photo ornaments using wrapping paper are cute.

The ornaments we made are 1 cup cinammon, 1/4 cup applesauce, 1/2 cup white glue (cinammon at Dollar Tree is cheap and perfect for this)...you just mix the cinammon and applesauce, then add the glue and knead it until it is smooth...roll it out and cut with cookie cutters...you need to put the ribbon or ornament hooks through before they dry...we decorate them with glitter glue when they are dry so they look like gingerbread...I teach 2nd and the kids followed the recipe in groups with teacher support, but for first, it would probably be easier to have a teacher/adult make the dough with the kids and have them roll it out

When I taught Kindergarten, we made "snowglobes". I collected baby food jars (the larger ones). I took a picture of each child, stuck it on a piece of paper, and laminated it. Then, I cut it out into the shape of a heart, stuck it inside the jar, put in a few tablespoons of glitter, filled it up with water, put some pretty fabric over the lid, and voila! Snowglobes! The kids LOVED them!
