Christening Question

Hi ladies,

I am wondering how many people you invited to your DC's christening.

DH and I are talking about it and it looks like it either has to be really small or way too big.

I really don't want to feel like I am planning another wedding! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

How did you decide? We find that if we invite a certain person, there are 4 more people who have to be invited. Just wondering if you all had really big events or small ones.

TIA!

Re: Christening Question

I had a very small Christening. It was only my immediate family about 15 people. DD was only 7 weeks old when she was Christened. I wasn't up to planning a big party. We had food catered it was very nice and relaxing.

Re: Christening Question

We are doing family and a couple of close friends - totals about 40 invites, but since most are out of state, it will likely be about 25, including a few kids.

Re: Christening Question

On the day of the Christening - We invited grandparents, godparents and siblings to the church and then took everyone to a restaurant down the street. There were 12 people.

A few weeks later we had a backyard party at my parent's house with my extended family and 2 very close friends - around 30 people. It was more of a bbq type thing. We wanted to celebrate - but we had to limit it to basically family otherwise it would get way too big.

We asked for donations to two children's charities in lieu of gifts.

Pretty much exactly the same here.

We invited 40, probably had 30 or so come.

Just immediate family and a couple friends.

Re: Christening Question

We had 70 people.....Over 100 were invited...Some people said they were coming and just didn't show up (that irritates me more then anything!) We also had to go big or go small....it was expensive though! The reception ran around $3,000....It is crazy!

Re: Christening Question

Around 80 people, and around 55 came. We have big families and also, we didn't have a baby shower so we went all out on the Christening.

Same here. We are inviting 40 but expect 25, give or take a few.

Re: Christening Question

Amanda I only did immediate family. It gets way out of hand if you keep inviting people.. we also did VERY close freinds also.. Which came to about 40 guests and 26.00 per person.

I hope this helps. No need for it to be huge.. Lucas wont remember it.

Re: Christening Question

DS christening is this coming Sunday!!!!

DH and I are both Greek and Greeks typically have pretty big christenings. We are having about 190 PP (about 100 of those are family)!! We had about 400 PP at our wedding though so 190 isnt so bad for us Chat Icon

We invited 70 because we had that problem. We could have completely excluded friends and that would have saved quite a lot of people but there were some friends that I couldnt imagine not being there.

Re: Christening Question

We only invited immediate and immediate extended family-like aunts, cousins, grandparents. We also only invited our very closest friends. Basically only the people we talk/see on a monthly basis-not those family/friends members you only see around weddings/funerals/random holidays.

Both christenings we had 40 people. If i let the list go, it would have been like our wedding and Dh and i def think it's a waste $$ to have big parties when they are this young.
