For all you ladies on clomid?

I am posting on a new message because I wanted to be sure this didnt get lost in the old thread.

I am currently on my first cycle of clomid (prescribed by my regular ob). I have not yet seen a specialist. My OB was very quick to prescribe this due to a serum progesterone level of 7.9. My questions are...once I finish the 5 days of clomid and start the baby dance, how long do I need to baby dance for? Do I keep going every other day until the end of the cycle (either pregnant or period)?

And...how many of you are seeing fertility specialists versus your regular ob and can you recommend a good one in the area around holbrook?

Your progesterone level indicates that you ovulate on your own just that your level is on the lower side, usually they would prescribe suppositories initially rather than going to a ovulation induction med. Personally, I had the same issue. I am not sure how old you are but usually once you are in your thirties especially over 35, progesterone is an issue. Since your doctor prescribed clomid, I hope it was so that you produce multiple follicules...otherwise, it won't help your progesterone level. Your doctor will need to monitor you. You should go in for a baseline sonogram approximately cd10 of your cycle to have your follicules and uterine lining measured as well has getting your LH monitored for a surge.

Honestly, rushing to use clomid without thorough testing is something ob/gyn's are infamous for. First of all, was the progesterone testing done 7 dpo ?

Remember that clomid can dry up your cervical mucus and thin your lining, so you need to decide if this med is beneficial to you

I would seek fertility assistance from a doctor who is trained....a reproductive endocrinologist.

I am supposed to start it next cycle but because of advice I have received (Redstar and others... ) I am going to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist instead...and take it from there.

My situation is different than yours, but yes I think clomid is the be-all end-all for most OB GYNs...

I agree about RSNY. I like the staff, but last time I waited 2 hours for my IUI and this wasnt the first time. I just switched to NSUH, they take alot of insurances also and their stats are much better. I ahvent been there long enough to tell you any more than that.

RSofNY has an office in Stony Brook. That is where I went. I got pregnant on my 3rd IUI with clomid. I love them there, the staff is really nice. I don't know how long the waitt is because I haven't been there since I got pregnant in January. I was referred by someone who used them and got pregnant. I know of several women (friends and women on this site) that got pregnant with their help.

I go to RSofNY in Mineola but will probably be switching shortly. The staff is very nice but honestly....I rather have information and better monitoring than 'nice'. There is no personalization there. In fact, they won't call you with your hormone levels unless there is a problem. There is no wait for a consultation. My friend called and was able to get in within a week. They are loading up on the patients and a usual visit can take about 2 hours. When you are going several days in a row, that could really get to you. Another thing, that I dislike, is that, they have two waiting rooms. One is very small, and there often isn't a chair to sit in because of the crowd. The chairs are side by side each other. If you are dealing with pregnancy loss, or are ttc you are mixed in with women who are carrying their u/s photos. Finding out you lost a pregnancy and then having to sit in that small area, with others that are celebrating life, is something that really makes things very uncomfortable. Their success rates for IVF I believe are the lowest in the area.

I have a friend who highly recommends him, but I cannot give you my own opinion yet. Right now I would go to Cornell but I am starting my own business so going into the city every day is not an option -- the stress would do me in.

I am hoping to do injections and IUI or IVF ASAP. I have lost too much time at this point.

I went to RSofNY in Stony Brook and didn't love them there. I wound up getting pregnant before they even did anything other than take blood, but they drove me crazy anyway.

I was also kinda annoyed that they immediately wanted to rush into an IUI. My issue was that I was having irregularly long cycles and wasn't sure I was ovulating (even with charting and OPKs) so I was really just looking for further monitoring to pinpoint when and if I o'ed. That they were pushing IUI immediately, was annoying.

They had me in every other day for a million tests once I was preggo, and each time they had some new crisis - my #'s were too low, my #'s were too high, chemical pregnancy, molar pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, I'm measuring big, I'm measuring small, no heartbeat, etc.

They made me so anxious, I wasn't even able to enjoy my BFP! It wasn't until I was 6.5 weeks along, that someone there finally said congratulations. (That was my last visit)

And the wait time was getting ridiculous. I also didn't like that I saw a different Dr every time I went. Why should I have to explain the same thing each time. If I'm going back to the same place, I want them to be familiar with my situation.

Now I'm getting all these bills for "infertility" bloodwork & sonograms, and I'm fighting with my insurance company explaining that I'm pregnant so how could it be for infertility, and they want RSofNY to re-code the bills, but RSofNY won't call me back. Now that I've been "released" they could care less. My insurance has a separate deductible & cap for infertility so its costing me hundreds - well worth it for the baby, but its the principle.

Anyway, in a nutshell, I don't recommend them.

I go to RSONY and have the same issues. The staff is very friendly, but it's a zoo and very impersonal. Nobody remembers me when I go in, I explain my stories over and over again, and I never see the same person twice. I feel like they rush you in and out so quickly and they book way too many appts at once. I personally feel they should limit their number of new patients at this point. I'm sort of regretting my decision to not go with Dr. Kreiner's office which was my other recommendation. The only 'perk' I see to RSONY is that they DO put you on the fast-track, which is what I wanted. I absolutely abhor the way they do not call you though. And every time I call it's a b*tch getting answers to any of my questions because they are so busy there. i can't say I don't recommend them though, bc I haven't seen the way other REs operate.

I recommend LIIVF ....they are great there and you don't feel like just a number..no overcrowded waiting rooms either..
