What a week!
I've had a very bad cold going on for about 2 1/2 weeks now, so on Thursday I finally went to the dr. Turns out it's not a cold at all -- it's either pneumonia or a bad sinus infection (but we can't tell for sure because we can't do a chest xray). I couldn't even believe it! The dr prescribed me antibiotics and a nasal spray. He wasn't overly concerned, but I was freaking out. When I got the medicine, I read the insert and it said that if you're pregnant you should only take the medicine if it's 100% necessary. I checked online and found out it was a category B drug, but that language sounded so strong so I got nervous. I called my OB to make sure it was ok to take and he said it was. So at 10pm I took my first dose.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the next morning I woke up and went to the bathroom and there was blood in my urine. I called the OB and he said I needed to go to the hospital right then.
So we went to the hospital. They said the blood is not at all related to the pneumonia or the medication -- it's just a coincidence. And they said the baby looks healthy. They don't know why I bled, but so far everything looks ok. They sent me home that afternoon.
Now we're back at home and I'm a nervous wreck and just feeling lousy. The last 2 days have been unreal.

Re: What a week!
Just to decipher what "Category B" means for you, it means that studies in animals have shown the drug to be safe, but that there aren't sufficient studies in humans to say that it is completely safe. Unfortunately, this is really the best you're going to get on a drug, because in order for a drug to be "Category A", pregnant women would have to agree to be involved in a drug study to test the drug's effect on the fetus, and who would do that??? If it makes you feel better, Tylenol is also Category B. Antibiotics that are rated Category B work on a part of the bacteria that humans don't have, so they actually can't harm human cells.
ETA - the only "drugs" that I could find that are category A are most of the vitamins (only when used in RDA doses), some of the thyroid preparations, and potassium salts.

Re: What a week!
Thanks ladies. If anyone has had blood in their urine at 26 weeks or later and had everything turn out fine, I'd love to hear about it. I'm just so nervous.
