When do we need to choose a pediatrician?
I heard that you should pick a pediatrician for your child by the time you give birth. When, or how soon do I need to pick one if Im due in April???
If soon, how are you all finding one?Are there any websites that recommend doctors or have reviews on doctors? My friends that have children all live in Suffolk.
I live in Nassau, but I'd like to find a doctor close by (Hicksville, Levittown, East Meadow, Jericho, Plainview) Anyone have someone they heard of????

Usually your OB can suggest a pediatrician that they are familiar with in your area. Otherwise, it's word of mouth and your own judgement when you go to meet with them.
As for when - some girls will go when they're in their early 30week gestation. Friends at work (nurses!) tell me you should go as soon as your baby is viable (23 weeks)! Personally, I have left it to late. I'm going to meet with one today -- and I'm 37w3d!

I did it at 32 weeks---I asked for recs from my neighbors and also took a list of peds in our insurance plan to my OB and she gave me a few recs as well

This is what I am in the process of doing as well. I asked my co-workers for recommendations and now I will start calling and setting up appointments. I am 30 weeks.

I'm due in April and I have a list of 3 doctors from people I know:
Seaford Pediatrics - Dr. Meckes
Dr. Oppenheimer - Bellmore
ProKids - Levittown
I guess I will start calling them and setting up interviews in February...

Another way to start the search could be to see what pediatricians are affiliated with the hospital you are giving birth at. Since these are the doctors that release the baby from the hospital.

eta: Once you find this out set up interviews with them and decide if you like them.

I asked my OB who he uses and it just so happened to be the same pediatrician I went to till I was 20, so that is how I decided. We chose Mid Suffolk Pediatrics in Hauppauge.
ETA: I did this at 30 Weeks

I never chose one until after I gave birth. I wound up using the doctors that came to see her in the hospital. I was very happy and I still am, so I am glad how it turned out

I am in the process of doing it now. I am 33 weeks. I asked my doctor for recommendations and started calling when I was 30 weeks. I have some appointments set up for next week and into February. I would recommend calling early. I thought I was in good shape, but alot of doctors reserve one night a week for these prenatal interviews and some were filled for a few weeks in advance.
