Re: Recovered from eating disorder and pregnant

It wasn't very severe, but I had anorexia in my junior/senior year of high school..FM

It's real tough believe me, as you probably know, to accept the weight gain..

I didn't technically have an eating disorder but I have always been self concious about my weight and starved myself just about before the wedding. During this PG I have been so obsessed with the scale, it's not funny.

Yes, I am recovered from an eating disorder and some other things that go along with that. It's very difficult. I have a very hard time looking in the mirror and dealing with weight gain.

Why would he do this? He should encourage you to eat especially now that you are pregnant? Maybe not crazy eat, but you should be eating more now that you are pregnant.

I think I would go crazy if my DH did this.

Hang in there

I'm not pregnant yet, but in college i had a eating disorder. I was not anorexic but I lost so much weight that i became obsessed with it to the point that i lost my period for a long time.

I have put on weight since then but it is always an uphill battle for me. I have serious apprehension about getting pregnant because of my fear of not being able to lose the weight after the baby. I am not as worried about getting heavier during my pregnancy.

Re: Recovered from eating disorder and pregnant

men can be jerks. i was 105 lbs when i started dating dh, prncssrachel can contest because we went to puerto rico as friends and i was really thin but muscular and when we got home i started dating my dh and he was not athletic at all, so i stopped going to the gym, over time i put some weight on, for my wedding i weighted 135 lbs and he ewas on my case every day until we got married and said the reason why is becusae he doesnt want me to regret the way i look later in life. so when i got preggo i was 140 about 10 lbs over weight and this was a disadvantage that i know about know since i am experiencing back problems, ie the doctor told me. so as i get weighted in each month i hate to look at the scale think ive gained between 35-45 lbs already but i feel good and do snack but also eat healthy too.

dh said he wants me back to my old weight after the baby and told him it wont happen over night but will take at least 3-4 months to see anytime of substancial weight loss. i learn to deal with him and ignore him. when i tell him he is going to give me a complex he says you always say that dont see one.

oh well guess i will be taking care of two babies.Chat Icon looking forward to a glass of wine after giving birth that will be my sanity.

WOW! I have to say I hope that your making it worse then it is, because that sounds kinda mean to me. I would never EVER allow DH to talk to me about what I ate. He worries about my extra weight, but he loves me if Im 110 lbs or 210 lbs.

Please dont let him make you ever feel like your not 100% ok just the way you are at any weight.

Im kinda saddened by this, and you dont want a child to ever feel pressured this way, maybe you should tell him that.

As far as the question at hand.

I suffered from major eating disorders, from starving myself to being bulimic. I was at my lowest weight ever as an adult the last time I got PG and at first I couldnt handle the thought of gaining a LB. As the weeks went on I realized how quickly those thoughts were replaced by who cares, Im pregnant, and believe it or not, I had no problems with the scale while I was PG.

BUT its different for everyone. If you feel yourself worrying excessively about weight gain, I would seek counesling for the duration of the PG. It can help , if even short term.

I feel for you all who may still suffer while being PG, Its hard and your strong women for delaing with it head on! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Recovered from eating disorder and pregnant

I was very obsessive about my weight-always was (and I stress the word WAS) a size 0 or size 1-2 but when I got pregnant I ate what I wanted whenever my body told me too-I gained a good amount-about 50 pounds and I am having a hard time losing it-14 months later. But let me tell you, I feel better than I ever did and more pround of my body than ever before. People tell me I look healthier, including my husband. Beleive me, i'd love to lose some more weight and tone up more but being a happy healthy mom is more important to me.

Re: Recovered from eating disorder and pregnant

I'm sorry your DH is giving you a hard time about your weight. Personally I think you look great!

Good luck to you and hopefully your DH will lighten up about this and realize how lucky he is and not care so much about weight gain.
