How to make a Bench Seat Cushion ?
I googled directions on making one & it doesn't seem that hard
I just wanted to know if anyone has tried this ? Do you NEED a sewing machine or can this be done by hand ?
I need an 18x29 inch cushion for the top of a bench....it's not easy to find and having it custom made is not cheap !
TIA

Re: How to make a Bench Seat Cushion ?
You can get a thin piece of wood, some foam core and some batting and a piece of fabric with about an extra 3 inches. You need a staple gun(you can get the craftsman at Sears for $20)
Lay out your wood cut to size(they will do this at Home Depot or a lumberyard) Glue on your foaqm core, then wrap your batting around the cushion and the wood. Flip it upside down centered on your fabric. Staple to the wood starting in the middle on each side. When you get to the corners you can fold like you fold wrapping paper or just fold one side over. GL!

Re: How to make a Bench Seat Cushion ?
you can def. make it with wood like the above poster said, but the only way i've ever made one is by sewing it with a sewing machine.

Re: How to make a Bench Seat Cushion ?
There are some simple ways of doing it without a sewing machine. A couple of years ago I bought a waverly project book and made one using the pattern and instructions in there. I definitely needed a sewing machine and it was involved but it looks really professional. (gussets, zipper, piping, etc.) You could go either way.
Have fun!

I made one this way for my mom since neither of us sew. It was very simple to do and took about 10 minutes!
