Updated with another question. All Opinions Needed: East or West Islip

How about the area north of sunrise behind the "Bob's Store". I think it's called the Presidential section. I saw a few houses over there.



I've been house-hunting in both East and West Islip. For those of you who have school age children, which would you prefer.

I know West Islip is a better school in the "Ratings", but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

If you live in West Islip. Can you tell me about the area just north of Montauk Hwy and just east of the Robert Moses Cross. They call it West Bay Shore but it's West Islip schools.

I don't know the area well, but my sister lives in West Islip just south of Higby Lane. It's just a beautiful area and the schools are great. My nephew has loved all his teachers and the principals as well.

I'm not so sure about East Islip schools. I have heard that they are not too good, but that's just what I've heard.

I grew up in West Islip and live there now. I think it is a great town. The further south you get the more $$. I'm not sure how the schools are compared to East Islip but I know they were very good when I was there. My sister goes to elementary school there now, possibly same one your kids would be going to and my Mom loves it. Lots of luck in your decision!

I grew up in West Islip and my parents still currently reside there. When I attended (which is longer ago than I'd like to remember!! ) it was a great school.

I would just be careful about the area you're looking in b/c I know there was a case recently in the news about a family sending their kids to WI Schools and after about 10 or so years it was determined they should have been going to Bayshore schools. They wound up making the kids leave the district and they were trying to make the family pay back tuition. I know they were in that area (I don't remember the exact street) so be sure to really check and make sure what SD you would really be in. These poor people didn't find out until YEARS later.

It was all over the news, I'm guessing if you do a google search you'll find it.

My dh grew up in West Islip and my mil loves it. My neice is still in school and she loves it! I hear the schools are better than East Islip. We lived (when with mil) just west of Robert Moses. Beautiful area! We've considered moving back.

I currently live in West Islip just moved here 2 years ago. My sister has lived here 14 years. I have 2 children in elementary school and they love it and I love it. I have to say compared to my old district it is wonderful all around. My address is Bay Shore but my schools are West Islip too. Just recheck with the realtor that it is West Islip Schools that is what I did and I also called the district office and made sure . I had my son who had to be registered for Kindergarten as soon as I closed on the house so he could attend the orientation program so I wanted to be sure. I have heard good things about East Islip also. Good luck with your decision and FM if you have any further questions.

My sister and her fiancee live in East Islip (He grew up there)

They have lots of friends with children in the EI schools and none of them have any complaints- although I'm not sure of the actual statistics.

We have friends with kids in E. Islip schools and all have only good things to say about it. I'm partial to Sayville which borders E.I. I am friends with the former superintendent of West Islip who said it was called "White Islip" because of the lack of diversity. I haven't heard anything bad about it though, other than the lack of diversity.

I grew up in West Islip and still live in West Islip. My oldest is school and he likes it and I love the principle. When he had his tonsils out he came here with a book which he signed and wanted my son to know that they all hope he gets better soon. Now you don't come across that too often However I have friends that live in E. Islip and they are very happy with it. Also awhile ago when we were looking for a bigger house I wanted to stay in West Islip but told dh I would consider East Islip also. However people do say once you live in West Islip you never leave

I grew up in the area. If I had to choose I would say West Islip. West Bay Shore is a great area.

I grew up in WI and will be moving back in a few months. The schools are good and the area is very nice.

The presidential section is very nice. You really can't go wrong with any sections of West Islip. If you live up there they will go to Udall Rd Middle School and probably Manituck Elementary School.

The presidential section is very nice we looked there also. My children have so many friends that live there. It is a nice neighborhood. The elementary school would either be Westbrook or Manetuck depending where the house actually is in that area. The middle school is Udall Road like the above poster said. Good luck.

Just moved to West Islip in August. DH and I love it here. Our children aren't school age but all our neighbors rave about the schools. We love our block and our neighbors. We are south of sunrise off Udall road. We looked all over W. Islip and I don't think you can go wrong with any area.
