Question for LI teachers

Did you need to have a portfolio when you went on your interviews? I've been working in the city for 8 years now and would like to make the switch to long island.
Thanks

Re: Question for LI teachers

most places didn't ask for a portfolio... But I was so mad that I worked my butt off on the darn thing that I managed to show it to them on most interviews.

Once they asked if I had any more questions I said, yes, would you like to see my portfolio? Chat Icon

Re: Question for LI teachers

i was never asked for anything because my resume and cover letter on an interview. they worked right off my resume and letter during the interview. they never asked for a portfolio.... once i got further along in the process i was often asked for a writing sample. i was also never asked to do a demo. lesson. I was lucky!

ETA: my district already posted their openings for next year last week in the NY times. it is doubtful they will post again. START LOOKING NOW!

GOOD LUCK!

Re: Question for LI teachers

when I interviewed in 2005, everyone asked to see my portfolio. I think it is one of those things that goes in and out of style.

Re: Question for LI teachers

the only thing i ever showed was reference letters and usually when i am talking they are glancing at them. no one has ever asked or looked at lesson plans.

I brought when when I was right after school and had worked on it so hard but now I have not worked on it in a while and therefore it does not come along with me.

Re: Question for LI teachers

I am still at the job I had fresh out of Library school. I brought my portfolio with me on interviews. If I interviewed for other jobs I would bring it.

Re: Question for LI teachers

I was told from a few different schools that I would need it to get a permanent position but not for things like subbing or leave replacements.. i'd have one made just in case

Re: Question for LI teachers

i add to mine yearly, and always brought it with me, and offer it out for viewing....it also stores all of my transcripts, coursework, memberships, etc....so i use it while filling out paperwork.

I had a small one and they glanced through it. Don't think I needed it.

They just flipped through it. It may be one of those things, seen one seen them all! Even when I offered it some wouldn't look at it.

I have never been asked (special area though), but I made mine electronically and put it on CDs and gave it out at each interview.
