I am so sad, little long sorry

I am just sitting here reading about jobs and I got soo frustrated and sad, here is the story, I came to the US 7 years ago from one of those former soviet union countries, the reason I came was b/c times were really bad, and I just wanted to have a chance for a better life. I was raised by very intelligent and highly educated parents, they gave the best education, went to the best school and went to the best college in the country, than I came here and since I couldn't get a job elsewhere I started working as a nanny, hoping that it would be temporary, but than things got even worse in my homeland and I had to support my family, so going back to school and getting a different job was postponed for a while, and I just went on being a nanny (sometimes feeling like a slave) I did try to find a different job few times as a sales person or a receptionist( since my degree from overseas is no goo here, but no one would hire me ,for various reasons . I don't even have a resume. now I am married and have a baby, we want to buy a house and maybe have more children , but in order to do all that I need to work too when the baby is a year old or so, but I don't want to be a nanny any more. I am just so frustrated, I am so intelligent and have a college degree, speak 3 languages and I can't get a job that will pay me more than minimum wage(and even that is a challenge) I keep thinking of ways I can make some extra money , even if it's at home , but can't come up with anything. I am sorry I just needed to vent a little.

Re: I am so sad, little long sorry

sorry to hear you are bummed out about this and that your plans haven't gone as you had hoped!

i agree with the temp agency suggestion. with your background - i would think that you could get some type of office job and maybe you will be able to get one where you have the opportunity to grow into another type of position down the line.

also - maybe hire a resume writer. i think a good resume can make a huge difference in a job hunt!

good luck!!!

So sorry you are going through this. I can imagine how frustrated you must be, esp. b/c you are college educated.

Perhaps you can find a job as a translator or at a private school?

First thing you should do is work on your resume. If you go to a temp agency, they will help you with this.

Best of luck!

Hang in there!

Do speech therapists need to be licensed by the state? There may be requirements here that you need to meet that you don't yet. You might post on the career board -- I know there are speech therapists who post here. It may be a matter of just getting the appropriate certifications, if speech therapy is what you really want to do.

if you are truly fluently trilingual..... take the UN test to become a translator!

quite a prestegious / well paying job... it would open up so many options to you in the future
