Would you take a cardio kickboxing class - updated!
If you were......
100 lbs overweight
very out of shape
maybe embarrassed because you know you wont be able to keep up with everyone else in the class?

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
Yes! And I have!
I wasn't 100 lbs overweight, but definately like 70. This was a few years ago. My sis took me and we made it a routine.
I was actually surprised at how quickly I "got it" and your size isn't everything. There were thin people who weren't able to keep up also. Actually, my sister, who was very in shape had a tough time the first couple of classes. After about 3 weeks, I was able to keep up with the rest of the class and really enjoyed it. We went twice a week for about 6 months.

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
Ahhh thanks! Good to hear your story....I am just a little hesitant. I dont want everyone staring at me...but then again why would I be going to a a class like that in first place!??! I just have to get over it I suppose!

I definitely would and have. Everyone is looking at themselves and could not care less who is standing next to them. And just go at your own pace. You will have fun!

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
I would definitely go!!
I am about 50-60 lbs overweight - and I thought the same thing when I joined a kickboxing class at the high school in my area.
I figured if I don't go - how am I going to lose it, cause I wasn't doing anything at home.
If you don't mind me asking - where are you going, I am looking to find classes, without joining a gym

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
OY!!!
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. People who are overweight and/or out of shape that are embarressed to go to the gym or take classes.
YES YES YES!!!!!!!! You should definitely go!!!! As big as I've been I've never been ashamed to go to the gym and workout or take classes. I am STILL the biggest girl in all my classes but I could give a crap. I enjoy it, I am paying money the same as everyone else and I really could care less what anyone thinks about my physical fitness or appearance.
I took this incredibly hard 75 minutes class the first day I went back to the gym after months and months of weigh gain and inactivity and I still remember as I am gasping for air and running around the room someone patting me on the back and saying don't give up. People are not laughing at you.
And anyway, you'll be burning SO many more calories then they will be anyway if you keep up
You can do it Heather!!!! Don't let your fears get in the way of your health

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
And I also want to add you don't HAVE to keep up. Do the best that you can do - that's it. Plain and simple. It will come with time.
If you think an hour may be a bit too much for you, make a committment to stay for say 30 minutes and follow through and build up to taking the entire class. Just do your best and that is more than enough

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
Totally go! Kickboxing is really the best cardio workout, I think. It gets all your zones, I love it! And it's fun!
Before you take a class, you can always learn a bit of the moves from a video. I think Kathy Smith has a good one that goes over the basics. I use videos all the time because there are not enough kickboxing classes for me in the area. I like Turbo Jam and Cathe Friedrich's Kick Punch & Crunch.
Good luck! Have fun!

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
You should really go, it's so much fun and it's a terrific motivator. I've noticed that a lot of people who are overweight tend to kick and punch harder. So that's one perk. Well that's if your class uses bags and pads.

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
I'm on the thinner end of the spectrum and I can't do kickboxing to save my life, I'm a total spaz. I dont think its an activity where weight largely influences how good you are at it.
Go for it! I'm sure they'll be some other idiots like me there who cant tell their left from their right and you'll look amazing.

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class
I freaking love you ladies!!!! You totally inspired me to go! I kept chickening out and then I figured okay I will go to the gym at least. I was so nervous but I just suc ked it up and I went upstairs and waited in the classroom.....for 25 minutes and the instructor never showed up!
I ended up going on the the treadmill for 40 minutes but hey at least I made the effort! I am going to go and try again next week. I cant believe after all that back and forth within myself that is what happened!
Oh and to answer some of your questions its a class at a gym.
Thank you again everyone!!!!

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class - updated!
Well the hard part is over Now at least for the next class you already know you can go in the room
If you ever think of not going, just post here and we'll convince your butt to get there. In a good way!!!!

Re: Would you take a cardio kickboxing class - updated!
Wow, that's wierd. Were other people waiting for the class too? Have fun next week! I've taken cardio kickboxing before, and in my class it was all different levels. I get soooooooooo winded that it's hard for me to keep up, but everyone else is working so hard that no one ever notices.

Yep there were about 25 or so people waiting with me. Some ladies started to do the routines on their own (I guess they are regulars in the class) but most of us left after 30 mins or so.
Cant wait to try again next week!
