Lymphedema (very long, sorry)

My daughter was diagosed with this. She's 28. She has it in both legs. Her legs & feet have been swollen for awhile, but not horrible. Her husband (then boyfriend) brought it to her attention. She went to a dr. who said "these are your legs, learn to live with it!) She didn't accept that and went to a few more drs. Finally a dr. looked at them and told her what it was. Anyway, she's going to for treatment but it's a lifelong thing. The treatment requres her to go to the clinic in Commack EVERY weekday morning. She's bandaged (layers) from her groin to her toes. The therapist takes the bandages off and does a gentle massage of all the areas that have lymph glands. The problem is the lymph fluid is settling in her legs/feet and not circulating thru her body properly. No cause, no cure. She has to do this bandaging for 4 wks. After that she will have to wear compression stockings EVERY day and these other contraptions on both her legs at night when she sleeps. She just got married in Nov. and this is a lousy way to begin married life! Has anyone had this or know about it? Although I didn't think her legs looked bad before, I definitely saw a difference after only 1 day of bandaging. She probably won't be able to go for long periods of time without the stockings. Maybe a day here and there where she can wear a skirt or shorts. She'll have to judge and see when they begin to swell. She will also have to continue doing the self massaging.

My sister has it. she stopped with the treatments because she didn't have the time. Her legs swell up pretty bad too. Sorry your daughter is going through this. I know it *****

That really stinks. I am sorry she has to deal with this... I wish there was a better way to control it.
