Does anyone else...

have serious trouble having a good night's sleep before you return after vacation?

It was TERRIBLE last night. I got to bed just fine but got up around 12:30...and after that it was like every hour on the hour I woke up. Whyyyy do I have so much anxiety? I planned and I'm ready...but so many thoughts go through my head!!

Well at least tonight I should have a great night's sleep!!! But seriously, this happens without fail- every time we return after vacation this happens to me.

that sounds JUST like my night! i told my husband this morning that i felt like i hardly slept at all.
AND, to top it off- i got observed FIRST thing this morning. ( i'm a speech therapist). right afterwards, we did the post op and she didn't really like the lesson at all! said the two kids hardly talked ( its not my fault they clam up when somebody they don't know is in the room!!) and that i did too much "leading" them to right answers... i don't know, its just a sucky all-around start back

I feel the same way, every time we have vacation time I still get anxiety and am very nervous, I tossed and turned ALL night, I barely got any sleep at all and I have been teaching at the same school for 6 years!

I am feeling everyone's pain. Yes, I couldn't sleep at all last night. I went back to work with a smile, trying to be positive, and now I feel like a zombie. They were so bad (as usual). I work in NYC, and I had to update portfolios, bulletin boards are due Thursday, we are part of a show on Wednesday, I am behind in Math, and to top it off we have quality review next month as well as ECLAS. I won't be sleeping well for a while!

Now for those of us that feel this anxiety, can't sleep, get depressed...
how do we feel about our jobs? This seems to happen to people who really love it!

We were all sitting at lunch today and we all had anxiety dreams about coming back!! even a veteran teacher who's retiring next year!

So...what is the deal with us? I THINK I love my job but it's these times I wonder....why do we get so anxious and depressed about going back?

I think it is just because we all get used to the amount of time we have off and always seem to be counting down to the next vacation ! It is natural to enjoy vacations more than work even if we love what we do. It just feels good to get away and be able to take care of all of the things we don't get to because of work. When it all comes to an end we have to get back to the grind and start counting down again ! I already have a 3 1/2 week count down until Easter break & I absolutely LOVE my job ! On days like today, I just remind myself of how lucky I am to have as much time off as I do...Working in a school is seriously the best eventhough it is a tough job.
