Car Seat Placement (Kinda Long)

I recently brought a new pathfinder and I'm kind of confused on where to put my DD's car seat. She is a small 15 months old and right now and I have her in the middle facing backwards using the seat belt because the latches are only for the sides. I did talk someone from the fire department and he told me she should be forward facing behind the passenger using the latch. I really don't feel comfortable turning her around yet. I have the Britax Marathon and it doesn't quite fit right behind either passenger or driver seat backwards. I'm just wondering if anyone is in a similar situation and has advice on where the safest placement would be. TIA!!!

I have read pros and cons for every position. When I had just one seat, I had it in the middle, so people could sit on either side. But when I turned it around, I put it on the passenger side so I didn't have to lift him into the seat as far and so I could look and talk to him.

If you cannot place her comfortably backward facing behind either passenger side and you cannot put her backward facing in the middle because of the straps, then I would turn her around and put her in the middle of the back seat. That would be the safest imo.

Re: Car Seat Placement (Kinda Long)

If you currently have her rear-facing, and she is fine with it, as long as the weight is below the maximum allowed by the seat, do not turn her around!!!! Rear-facing is ALWAYS safer (assuming the car seat permits it, weight-wise).

When strapped in properly, the seat belt method is just as safe, if not safer than the LATCH method. The LATCH method is just much easier, which is why it is in almost all cars now. After a certain weight, the LATCH is no longer permitted. I think it's 45lbs, but I'm not sure.

The middle is the safest, so that there is the maximum amount of space between a car impacting the side of your car, and DC.

Totally agree. Do NOT turn her just to get the carseat to fit. It is proven to be safer. 20lbs and 1 yr is the minimum to turn forward-you don't have to do it. I would bring the seat to be checked. Maybe you are doing somerhing wrong with the installation. this site will tell you where you can go
