To Stay or Not to Stay...Kinda long
Hi Teachers,
I need some advice on what I should do. I am currently teaching in Brooklyn and live in Queens. I am in the process of moving by the end of March to Suffolk County. I cannot decide whether to stay at the school I am at and deal with an hour commute (no traffic) or go back to substituting.
I should also mention that I recently got an extension for my permanent certification and if I stay til June, I will have a year and a half of full-time (I need 2). I also am very miserable at my job.
Should I do what makes me happy and not deal with the commute, or should I stay for the sake of trying to get credit towards permanent certification?
TIA

How long is your extension for? Substituting time counts toward the 2 years you need, just make sure it's documented. I totally understand your wanting to leave. If you have enough time for your extension, and can handle the difference in pay for now then I would leave. Being happy is more important

My extension is for two years. I have over 200 days of substituting but that is counted on a prorated basis so I am not sure yet how much credit I have from subbing. Thanks for the feedback!

I would stay until the end of the year. Personally, I would feel awful leaving my students in April, where there are only three months left. Plus, you are getting credit, which you need for permanent certification.
