How many IUIS?

Well we just had our 4th last week and Im wondering what now? As some of you know, our RE feels we should move on to IVF, but Im not 100% comfortable with that, I dont know if we can afford it, we have no insurance.

IF this one fails, we are going to do another, but then what?

WOuld you keep on doing the IUI's while saving up money for the IVF? OR takea break from it all in preparation of IVF?

I know the decision is ours, Im just looking for some ideas or peoples feelings towards it...

Re: How many IUIS?

Donna,

I also do not have insurance for IVF so I totally know how you feel. I did 4 IUI's also and for me I just felt it was time to move on to something that has a higher success rate. I was quoted 50% with IVF which is much more enticing than 10-15% for IUI. I'm also turning 36 soon and just didn't want to wait anymore. My original plan was to wait until the Spring for IVF but one of my girlfriends who also did IVF (has DS) asked me "why would you wait". I want a baby now and she's right...why should I have to wait when we have access to all all the technology now. Our parents generation did not have this advantage and there were probably so many women going through this back then that had no help. We do and I just feel that I will take advantage of all science has to offer.

I really hope your IUI worked and you do not need to go down the IVF route.

I also hope you dont have to make this decision. I personally would probably keep doing IUI while saving for IVF as long as my insurance was covering it. (and I could emotionally handle it)

yeah there's that too..the emotional part. As too many of you know, the IUIS are very draining. I feel like I have been doing them for 1 year instead of 4-5 months!

Re: How many IUIS?

I would save up for IVF, it is so worth it.
Why not take a month off from the IUI's and maybe go away.
That is what we did before we did IVF, we took a break before we started the IVF process, and I totally went into the whole process with a clear head and so positive, and that makes such a difference.

Re: How many IUIS?

Personally, I did 3 and it was 3 too many with the clinic I was going to. Sorry to say but I don't feel Rsofny, has an adequate lab.

I am on an IUI break and heading to Cornell in Jan.

IMO, I would switch clinics....and get a new perspective.

However, hopefully you will end up with a bfp and this won't even be an issue.

Re: How many IUIS?

Hi Donna...I just wanted to say I know how you feel. I just went through this myself last week...after my 4th IUI failed. I was convinced that I should move onto IVF because this just wasn't working. I met with the doctor, and he put it into a better perspective for me. For my first 3 IUI's, I was doing chlomid...and they never could find my ovaries to see the follicles...so they based everything around my bloodwork. While bloodwork says alot, it did not tell the whole story. So...after 3 IUI's, I had the laparoscopy done so they could see the ovaries and figure out what's going on. Once I was done with the sugery...IUI #4, I did injectables. I was taking shots for a very long time...until they found the right dosage to make my system respond.

So...as the doctor put it...I really only had 1 IUI on the new medicine...so I should give it 3 tries before I call it quits and move onto IVF. Sorry this is so long...but maybe you need to change the protocol that you are doing? Are you doing injectables? Chlomid? Un-medicated?

While, I find thie IUI process so emotional draining...I am trying to keep my eye on the prize...which is to have a baby. Good luck and you have to make the decision that is right for you and DH.

Re: How many IUIS?

this week i will be having my 4th iui - 3rd on clomid. to me, they are VERY draining. the monitering takes a lot of time out of my schedule, and i always feel terrible asking dh to go and drop off his "sample". it is just such a cold process with such a low success rate. sometimes i think we would just be better of bd'ing.

but then i think, maybe this month will be the one. if anyone has read the book "fertility for dummies" you know that the author got pregnant on lucky iui #13!!!!....Chat Icon

for me, ivf seems like the next logical step. but that is ONLY because i have insurance. if i did not, i would continue with the iui's for at least another 3 or 4 cycles.

remember that you are also young, donna, time is on your side. i hope you get your bfp this month....baby dust to you!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
