upper respitaory virus?

anyone ever have this?

This is what the doctor told me I have, he didnt put me on any antibiotics and said to jsut keep taking tylenol for fever and robitussin for my cough and get rest.

I'm still coughing, throat is a little achy, had fever since saturday but as of this morning no fever finally and I feel tired, although I did just notice that the robitussin have been takng is for nighttime so maybe thats what is making me sleepy.

Should i go for a second opinion or just contiue to get rest and ride it out?

Re: upper respitaory virus?

Is the mucus you're bringing up clear?

If so, doc is right, it's a virus and you have to wait it out.

if you're coughing up yellow or green, then it's bacterial and you need antibiotics.

However, sometimes my doc will give me antibiotics when i have a virus to prevent and opportunistic bacterial infections

There's not much you can do about it, unfortunately. Just get some rest and let it run its course. Antibiotics won't help.

Feel better!

Re: upper respitaory virus?

Welcome to my world! After being sick for various reasons over the last couple of weeks, went to a dr. yesterday when I couldn't breathe from the chest congestion and am finally off antibiotics that weren't working and am now on..a cough medicine with codeine, an inhaler, and allegra..as soon as I got home yesterday, I did everything and feel a LOT better today..things are finally loosening up as I was not coughing anything up, either..feel better and hang in there!
