Root canal...
Ugh.. I had a cavity filled about a month ago and it was giving me a really hard time. I went today and they were sure i wouldnt need a root canal but when they took out the filling, they realized I did. He "started it" (whatever that means) and I have to go back Tuesday. I am FREAKING out. I hate the dentist and I want to know exactly how bad this will be..
HELP..

it won't be bad  i've had too many to count unfortunately. is it on the top or bottom?

I have heard bad stories about this from other people so I was freaking out when I had to get it done too. I put it off so long that I would wake up in the middle of the night in so much pain and be hysterical crying, but I still wouldn't go. The ONLY reason why I went to get it done (and I have to get 3 done when I went) was because I was getting married and I could not let myself be like that on my wedding day or my honeymoon. So I got 3 done and let me tell you, as long as you have the right dentist, it was NOTHING!!! My dentist was amazing and past cavities that I have gotten filled from other dentists hurt more than all 3 root canals. It really was not painful at all; honestly!! I hope you feel better

I too have had a lot of dental work done. Root canals aren't nearly as bad as some say.
I always think the shot of Novocaine is the worst part.

Ditto for me. I have had root canals on teeth I have already had root canals on. It really is not that bad and the pain they will save you from make it all so worth it. I find the worst part to be after the novacaine wears off and my tooth is sore.
Don't worry about it...people make it out to be worse then it is.

I have to agree with this. I have had it done and was all stressed in my head at the sound of "you might need a root canal". But, I popped my iPod on and the shots of novocaine were the worst of it!

I'm on my second and if you said the dr started it then that is the worst part. I just had my post put in with a temp crown and that was a very easy apt since the root is gone you don't feel anything. I too hate the dentist. Good Luck

I have to be honest. I have had one root canal and it was the most painful dental work I have ever had done, the first part of it. I am good with pain and I don't mind the dentist. I've had my wisdom teeth taken out, with only Novocaine and sweet air and that was less painful than the one root canal I had done. I think the Novocaine must have worn off.

I had one. I didn't really have any pain. It was mostly annoying. I remeber them scraping in my tooth with all different pins.
I was scared, but it was nothing

I had 3 emergency root canals done during pregnancy. I was scared to death, especially not being able to have the good drugs. It wasn't bad at all. Good luck!!!
