Park Avenue Bead store in Wantagh...or other?
Anyone ever go there? I usually go to Beads N Stitches in Hicksville but would like to see what other places have. Bead Market on Bi County Blvd. in Farmingdale was a huge waste of time. I was hoping someone here knew about Park Ave. Is it worth the trip from Nassau? Are there any other places I am missing? I know nothing compares to the city but it's expensive to get there and I'd rather spend the money on materials. Thanks.

You can also try Ace Handicraft 314 Hempstead Tpke West Hempstead
They have a nice selection of beads as well as other craft items...AC Moore and Michael's are also increasing their beading selections, but you are right, Manhattan bead stores have them all beat, hands down.

I don't usually go to stores any more. most of what I buy, I get from Fire Mountain Gems. I used to manage a bead store in Huntington when I was in college (it folded years ago), and even then, I could get better discounts through FMG than I could even with my discount at my store.
I find that I get much better deals buying online b/c you can get quantity and assortment discounts.

I do get the Fire Mt. Gems catalogue and it's packed with good information and lots of stuff that do look great. I just can't seem to get over my need to see and touch though. Have you ever been disappointed with the quality of anything you bought? Thanks for your encouragement with this. I would love to FM you with specifics sometime, if you don't mind.

please do! happy to help.
I've never been disappointed with the quality of what I've gotten from them. from the Delicas to semi-precious strands, I've never had a bad bead.
and totally understand the need to touch and inspect. one way to get around this is if you find a good drop or centerpiece bead that you want to design around, you can get that bead at an actual store, and then get your fillers online.

Thanks so much. I am still insecure about combining colors. Are the pictures true enough for matching?

they are, particularly for glass and seed beads. the variations happen when you are dealing with semi-precious, b/c those are natural variations. so a strand of turquoise chips may all be very similar but slightly different. but the colors you see on the site are what you will receive.
