Anyone Quilt?

I'd love to do it, but I haven't the slightest idea how to start.

What do I do?

TIA!

Re: Anyone Quilt?

my mom does and actually teaches a class in adult ed in her district. Maybe you have one in your adult ed, or Wilson Tech or a fabric store (like joanns?) there's also the quilting bug in Massapequa that has quilting classes.

If you know how to sew, it can be pretty easy - you can get kits already prepared (no cutting for you). sewing straight lines and ironing. the quilting is a little more hand labor intensive, but you can do that on the machine as well

Oooh, thanks! I live in North Massapequa. I just look up The Quilting Bug and apparently it's on the same block I live on and I've never seen it before, lol... I'll have to pay more attention when I'm riving that way. Chat Icon

The Quilting Bug is a great quilt shop - they offer some nice classes.
Personally I have no idea how to quilt but sell quilting fabric for a living!

There is another shop in Sayville and another in Islip.

Quilting is the #1 hobby after scrapbooking nationwide. It's soo popular outside LI and the local area.

You can also find a guild to join - I know there is one called Long Island Quilter's Society. Many groups meet to work on their own projects and quilts for charities.

Re: Anyone Quilt?

I do lots of quilting. Log Cabin, 9-Patch, rail fence are all good quilts for starters. I would reccommend takign a class so you can learn the right way to cut, piece and iron - it's always harder to un-learn a bad habit than to learn it right the first time.

Patchwork is good in Sayville and there is also Sentimental Stitches in Cold Spring Harbor. I hope you find luck at the quilting big, it seems to have a nice big room for classes
