I was there once on business, but in the winter. it is really nice there! lots of mom & pop restaurants. there is a Mexican place that we had dinner at, supposedly it is a hot spot during the summer. it was really great.

I've been out there for business. There is a place right on the PCH, the restaurant is literally on the beach. I have the name at work, I'll FM you.

There's a BJ's Restaurant/Brewhouse in Newport - it's a chain, but last I knew, it wasn't on the east coast. The food is pretty good, and for dessert they have this thing called a Pizookie that's a giant cookie with ice cream on it. It's realllly good (but share it, because seriously, it's huge).

Also if you need to buy a bathing suit, go to Diane's. They have a great selection.

If you go to Irvine (maybe 10 miles away, give or take?) there's the Irvine Spectrum, an outdoor mall with good shopping.

And just north on PCH is Huntington Beach, which, I believe, is the original "Surf City" from the '50s songs.

I drove up the coast last summer with DH. We LOVED Newport Beach. I loved walking around Balboa Island and looking at all of the cute houses. You also have to get a Balboa Bar at one of the ice cream stands!

My favorite bathing suit shop is Molly Brown Swimwear. Her stuff is incredible!

The beach is beautiful! It's a great place to relax!
