I don't think that it's odd, IMO, I think that you should have a civil to nice relationship with her, because afterall her child is your eldest's sibling.

I dont think its strange to talk to her, as you now have a LOT in common( children wise) but I would think it would be hard to keep mention of your ex out of a conversation?
What do you talk about? Kids? Other stuff?
AND..whos to judge whats weird, if you have a bond with her, or simply like to talk to her, so be it. Lifes too short to limit yourself because it may be weird.
What does your husband say? anything?

I think it is a little strange, probably to first get over the awkwardness - but I think it is good to keep a healthly relationship when there are children involved, they notice that stuff

My DH doesnt like my ex(he treated my daughter and me like crap) my DH cant get over that!!
so we try not to talk about the ex. But I bought them a lot of stuff like a wedding shower gift and then a wedding gift and then a baby shower gift and then a baby is born gift and next week a christening gift....and I dont think DH is happy about that
he never says anything but he doesnt have to because I can read his face ya know
I think it is beneficial to be the wifes friend because my daughter is in her care every Sunday
I also think it's beneficial... because no matter what, she's in your daughter's life forever now.
As for you DH not liking the situation... try to look at it from his shoes. It's not easy to have to deal with someone else's past. If only you could leave that past where it belongs, but there's no going around maintaining a relationship with the person DH hates because of your child.

for the record my ex didnt come around til my daughter was almost 5 and I was 8 months preggo w/my 2nd child when they served me with court papers!!!!!
and also I dont like my ex I tolerate him...he still doesnt show up when he is supposed to and leaves my daughter waiting at the door and then never shows up
He is always disappointing her
Arghhh,.. I hate when children are disappointed by their parents!
