Question.....

After many MC my sister just put in for adoption. What can I do for her during this process, besides being there to listen and when she gets her baby, would it be a good idea to have a shower for her, or should I ask her what she wants.Maybe give her a party so she can introduce the baby to the family? I cannot wait to be an aunt. G-d Bless all of you in your adoptions. I hope u all get your babies, you all deserve happiness.

Re: Question.....

The number one thing you can do for her throughout the process is to provide her with emotional support bc it is a very emotionally draining experience in my opinion. Aside from that, I would DEFINITELY plan on throwing her a shower. She will need lots of things for her baby just as she would if she were pregnant. Where is she adopting from? Maybe she will want a 'coming home' or 'gotchya' party also, but I definitely think the shower is a great idea, especially if this is her first. I wish her the best of luck. Sounds like she has a great sister! Chat Icon

Re: Question.....

What kind of adoption is she going for- international or domestic. Domestic can be much more "iffy" than international so a shower is a big "scary" for lack of a better word since the birth mother can change her mind after giving birth.
When my close friend was adopting from China I threw her a shower 2 months before she traveled. I also got her a few children's book during her process and I always asked her about it. I also encouraged her to register and I was really excited about the whole thing. That is what I am missing with this adoption. During my pregnancy everyone was just so excited and I was physcially changing which was exciting. Now I find that all of this paperwork lacks that same level of excitment.

Re: Question.....

That is so great of you to think of these things! I would definately do a shower especially if this is her first child. Alot of people do their shower between their referral and travel dates (about a 2 month span). This is a great time because you'll definately know the age of the baby and approximate weight. Which makes it so much easier in buying the right supplies and clothes.

Definately ask her about the process periodically and just let her know that you are their for her if she has any questions or has to vent. Waiting is the hardest part and it's good to know there is someone to share your anxiousness with.
