IVF ET and full bladder
OK this is me being really positive and looking ahead to tomorrow.
Any tips on the full bladder thing at ET? I will be driving into the city (takes about 2 hours). Trying to figure out how not to burst.
Thanks, BA

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
When I had my transfer, they told me when to be in the office, and when to start drinking water. I had to be there by 10:30 am, my transfer was scheduled for 11:00. I was told to start drinking at 10:00, but to be finished by 10:30. I was told to drink 2 full bottles of water. I think the worst part of the whole thing was having the technician pressing the ultrasound probe on my bladder. I was praying I wasn't going to have an accident on the doctor!

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
Yeah I would start drinking about one hour before you get there. Definately go before you leave your house and then down the water. If you are nervous, wait until you are a little closer to the clinic but make sure you'll have enough time to finish all the water. I agree, the tech pressing down on the bladder was by far the worst part of the whole thing!! I thought I was going to pass out I was so uncomfortable-LOL!

Don't drink the water until you get there, I didn'y the 1st time and then they were 40 minutes behind schedule. Last time I drank it as soon as I got to the dr. office and it was fine.

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
I started drinking about 2 hours before my appointment - but note - they were over an hour behind schedule! So I was about to burst when the technician was pushing down with the ultrasound!

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
don't drink till you get there...
you don't want to be bursting, remember you have to stay laying down after ET for about half an hour

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
my bladder was full, but not to the point that it was uncomfortable and the dr. said that i did a good job with my bladder. i would start drinking an hour b4 you get there. that's what i did and i even went to the bathroom once and it was fine. good luck!
ETA don't go into the ER feeling like you are going to burst, you can go to the bathroom, but if you do just drink some more after you do.

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
I have a very good bladder.. but it was enough to just drink one reg size water bottle about 1/2 hour before transfer.
They don't want you to be too uncomfortable it is just they do a sono to see everything so they need a full bladder.
Don't go crazy with the water.. trust me you will be so uncomfortable during the ET.
Best of luck

Re: IVF ET and full bladder
I'm probably the wrong person to give advice on this one but thsi was my experience ....I downed my water in the car on the way there and by the time I walked in the door- wanted to burst- Needless to say they were behind almost an hour- The nurses saw how uncomfortable I was and let me "let a little out" (easier said than done...They let me do that 4 TIMES and when I got in for my ET, the RE said I had too much in my bladder and made me empty out entirely (the best feeling ever) !...I think I have a really small bladder, so maybe thats my issue...My personal advice is to wait as long as you can, and/or drink VERY slowly in case there is any delays !...Good Luck - I will be thinking of you !!!
