Peconic Bay Medical Center (fka Central Suffolk) in Riverhead...
I have to say, after my short trip to the ER the other night (everything is fine) I have a NEW feeling about having to go to that hospital.
My uncle was in the hospital there a few years back and I thought it was dungy & dingy and a ghost town. I never passed a person walking down the hallways. I was always concerned about an emergency because that is the closest hospital to my house but I was worried about the care I would get.
Long story short, the new ER just opened up about a month ago and it was FANTASTIC. It is run by Stony Brook doctors and staff. The people were nice, the facility was new and clean and I was in & out in 3 hours (test and all). I can be overly critical, but I was genuinely pleased with the outcome (then again, my experience was minor)
So, all of us East Enders have to stick together and I wanted you to know about the new changes the hospital has.

They no longer take Oxford too. Just read that in the Suffolk Times.
As for the emergency room, I went there in November because I fell down on my elbow into a slate floor and could have sworn I broke my arm. I didn't but it was really quiet well except for the crack head who was being guarded by the Sherrifs It was still under construction but it's good to know it's finished.

Thanks for letting us know about this!!! I never liked that hospital before- we never had any bad experiences there- but I heard some stories from others.... I did get a paper in the mail not that long ago that showed some pics of the new wing--- it looked really nice and modernized a lot.

my Aunt had major surgery there & was there for christmas, they brought her to a family room & about 20 of us brought her gifts & hung out with her for an hour or so, I thought it was so nice.
I have also taken both of my children there, before the new ER was built & I was ok with the treatment they got.
We just switched to oxford, I need to find out about that!

They have an agreement with Stony Brook and do EMS transports as well. The hospital is definitely improving.

I work for a construction company and we did alot of work on the hospital. They are really spending a good amount of money to update it and make it a nice hospital. I live no where near it, but I can tell by all the work they send out to bid that they are serious about fixing it up.
