I am just guessing here, but maybe they are too busy:
1.) checking out the opposite sex
2.) checking out their ______ (ipod, cell phone, insert electronic gadget of choice)
3.) doodling
4.) writing notes to friends
5.) sleeping
Really, Rich, if you are over the age of 18, do you really expect them to listen to you?

Well when I was in 5th grade I paid attention to anyone but the teacher. Especially a cute boy that sat right next to me!  Ahh...the notes, the first puppy love, the first kiss, the first dance....the list goes on and on!!!
