Cheapest Way to Call Home from Carribean

I'm going to jamaica at the end of April without DH or DS. I'm probably going to want to call home everyday. I contacted Verizon and added a feature to my cell for $3.99 per month which gives me discounted airtime. With that Jamaica is $1.29 per minute

I'm open to other options because over the 6 days this might cost me as much as the trip did! Thanks!

In Cayman I added the "discounted" air to my AT&T cell and spent $100 for 10 days. i would add the $3.99 and make the calls quick.

You can buy a cell phone when you get there and use calling cards. That's the best/cheapest way to do it.

ETA do you have a laptop? You can chat for free (that is if you have free Wifi in the hotel) through the computer.

I would buy a calling card at price club or costco and use that instead of your cell phone. That is what we did when we were in jamaica. If you buy a certain amount of mins that should last you the time you are gone.
