Those that had the routine bloodwork for lead
Did your DC have to fast for this bloodwork? I am dreading bringing DS for this. Is it really that bad?

No fasting. She cried while they were holding her finger, but more I think because she felt restrained.
Please, if this girl knew how much blood I had to let just to get her....

its not fasting. ETA - I must be a bad mom cause I never got it for the kids vaccines are bad enough.
Don't feel bad because I never got it done. I did try though and they couldn't find a strong enough vein in his arm. They kept tying and untying that rubber thingy around both his arms looking for a strong enough vein. At this point my son was hysterical crying just from them tying that rubber thingy around his arm. Then they get the needle in but didn't get enough blood cuz they thought they had a strong enough vein but turns out it wasn't. This was all done at a lab. Needless to say I called the ped and told him about the experience, he said to wait and try again at 18 months. I never went back due to the experience my son had.

The same thing happened to us!!! At his 2 year appointment the doctor noticed that we never did the lead test. I reminded her of what happened. She gave me another prescription and said if I want to try again, it's good for so many months. I just can't bring myself to take DS to the lab again. It was just AWFUL! DH is on vacation next week, I might have him bring DS.
How important is this test??? Does anyone know?

I have a feeling that the doctor might say something at DS's 2 year appointment. I guess we can try it again. It's just that getting a 2 year old to sit still while getting a needle in his arm will be no fun at all...

It's pretty important since lead can be seeped into your water from pipes, ingested from old paint, etc. Lead causes a lot of developmental problems in children.

Re: Those that had the routine bloodwork for lead
We went in February right after my ds turned 1yrs old. It really wasn't bad and was done in about 1 minute. By the time he started to cry it was over. Thank God, sometimes I think it's wors for us then them.
