I wanted to tell you 1. you are not alone and 2. it really almost doesn't matter if you know anybody anymore. Not that I know anybody, but I have friends who have family/friends in high places in school districts and they can not get jobs either.
Good luck in your search! What grade are you looking for? maybe we can all keep an eye open for you.

Re: i don't know anyone :(
Hang in there! One thing I would suggest that you do NOW is get your MA certifications transferred to NY certification. it's probalby just a mtter of paperowrk and taking the NY teacher certfication exams...EASY!
go to the NY state ed. site:
www.nysed.gov/tcert
and see what you have to do to change your certification to NY. LI schools get soooo many resumes, they really won't consider you unless you have NY certification, they have so many applicants that already have it, so it makes it easier for them.
NYC does work with out-of-state licenss, but will require that you eventually get a NY state cert.
GOOD LUCK!

One of the best ways to get into a district is to sub-if you can find a permanent sub position that might help you. It is guaranteed work everyday and you will likely be considered for any leave replacements/openings. You also get to know alot about the district which will help you to decided if that is a place where you would like to work.

Re: i don't know anyone :(
It's such a frustrating process - i don'ty know why I keep hearing people say that we need tecahers - no one can ever get a job!! I gave up on being emplyed in school districts, burt i'm lucky I am able to consult and work with a wide variety of kids, plus have a certification in behavior analysis - otherwise I still wouldnt have a job!!!

Transferring your MA license to NY is easy...I did it using reciprocity...all I needed to do was take the NY tests, fill out the paperwork and mail it in...you will need to do it now though, because it can take months (much longer than MA took!) Good luck!

Re: i don't know anyone :(
thank you all so much for your advice... (it's much better advice than my husband's!!)
i already transferred my licenses and im certified for childhood ed 1-6 and special ed 1-6. im hoping that something will pop up. someone mentioned to me that a lot of districts won't post openings until after their budgets have been approved...
trying to keep faith :)
