Marathoners--need your advice!
What do you think of this training program for first-time marathoners? I haven't run a distance over 10K. Also, would you recommend doing a half-marathon before the full to get a feel for the real thing?
The marathon I would be training for is in October.

that program looks pretty thorough. go for it.
from my experience (7 full marathons, many more 1/2 marathons, and running since age 13) i'd say that the first few weeks of training are most important. try to stick to the program. this will build you a nice solid foundation. if you get injured later on, it will be easier to recover and possibly still complete the race. DO listen to your body and give it plenty of rest and recovery time. Do not try to force yourself to put in the mileage when your body is saying no, and I'm not talking about just general fatigue...I'm talking about when your body is sending you serious messages. This will possibly lead to injury and depression over the injury. Best advice is to have fun and enjoy it. Try to go with a friend once in a while, even if they just bike alongside with you.
