Top of my wedding cake to Hawaii w/out spoiling? Has anyone traveled that far with their cake before?

Re: How do I get the
Hmm that's tough. I traveled from Long Island to my home in Baltimore with it (on a plane). I guess it was out of the freezer for 3.5 hours or so and it was fine.. but you are talking about ALOT more time than that.
I would think you'd have to ship it with dry ice? Can you have it right before or after you go?

We went to Europe for our 1yr anniversary, and didn't even think to bring the top of our cake. We just did the cake thing when we got back. Can that be an option? Maybe you can call ahead to your hotel and see if they can make a small replica for your actual anniversary, then eat the real one when you get home.

Re: How do I get the
I doubt they would let you bring it through security. Cake frosting is probably too much like a gel. I know one of my coworkers tried to bring homemade cookies on board at christmas and they wouldnt let her.
I would say eat it before or after you get back. Its not worth the trouble for freezer burned cake.

Re: How do I get the
i agree...theres so many new rules with airlines and what you can and can't take. i think its too much trouble to go through, just to have a couple bites of freezer burned cake- i would do the cake at home either before or after you go, and see if the hotel can make you a mini cake for your actual anniversary.

Re: How do I get the
to be honest, my cake sucked after a year of being in the freezer. i spit it out so fast!
but, like everyone said...security will never let you on with that....even a piece.
i know it sounds crazy, but if you really wanted the cake on your trip..you could look into overnighting it.

Re: How do I get the
I would leave it for a night after I got home from my trip.
BUT if you REALLY want it. Then pack it up with some dry ice and overnight it to the resort.

Re: How do I get the
Thanks for all your replys........I'm a bit old fashioned and wanted to follow the tradition of having it on our one year but it seems like it's not going to happen ......I guess we can have our stale freezer burned cake when we return...lol...

Re: How do I get the
We leave for our trip on our anniversary so I think we will have our wedding cake the night before. I am thinking of calling the hotel to ask them to have a cake in the room for when we check in.

Re: How do I get the
I brought mine on a plane from NY to CA, and security didn't give me any problems about it. I kept it frozen until I left for the airport, and then put it in the fridge once I got home, so it was probably out for about 8 1/2 hours total. And we ate it that night, and it still tasted good.
