Ya it's block party time again. 
I just saw my neighbor in the supermarket. She planned the block party last year. The years before that it was done by "the block mayor" and it was always expensive like 115.00. The first year we were here the "block mayor" had 200 people and she had rented chairs tents and tables all over her lawn. We always thought they must be paying for all that stuff with our money.
My neighbor just says to me oh ya we are going to send around a letter for the block party this year. It will be some time in July. and it looks like the money that was left over from last year will pay for the dj this year  Money left over? So I paid 110.00 last year and you have left over W T F.
It's hard because 1. you don't want to make it a big deal with your neighbors. 2. you don't want to say I won't participate (especially now that I paid for it already last year ) because we have a GREAT time every year.
BUT Seriously W T F!

I organize my block party and it's about $50 per house.
My sister used to organize it and we didn't have a block party for about 4 years because of people WHO DON'T EVEN LIVE ON MY BLOCK were complaining about everything. (they live on the adjoining block at the stop sign) We are nice enough to invite them and they have the nerve to complain.
Now I organize it. So far since last year nobodys given any $hiiit to deal with. The people on the adjoining block don't have a say in anything, they are invited and if they will attend they are requested to pay.
But $110 is ridiculous.

It is crazy. We use to pay between 25.00 and 50.00 at my parents house but for some reason this block always gets a big blow up slide and a dunk machine etc. etc. etc. I don't have kids so I pay for that and we don't use it. Last year the same 3 kids went up and down the slide and that was it.
But what can you say that is to much money Im not paying and then invite all your guests? Or make a big deal and look like the cheap-o lol.
BUT if she has enough money from last years block party this year to cover the dj then

I only know 100 as being "the norm' But I agree....No leftovers, return the $ if there is SO much left over.

We can't have block parties cuz we are an emergency escape route, so I can't help you...
I wish we could though...I'm jealous of you guys with your block parties....
