Daycare Drama! HELP!
Anxiety...Is there any worse feeling then arguing with your daycare place? OMG! So, my child is currently enrolled at a wonderful place in Bethpage, however, she was exposed to a virus from another student whose parents never keep her home when she is sick. We have been in dispute about payment for the time she missed (over 500 bucks). We were told that if we do not make payment in full or a payment plan, Friday would be her last day (This was told to us tonight). I countered with an offer of 1/2 payment, saying I understand their position as a business, but they need to temper their policy with consideration.
I have a feeling they are NOT going to take that offer. If that is the case I need a new daycare place that will be good for my daughter. My daughter is 19 months, loves to read (well, uses books and reads pictures) do her alphabet and songs, and loves the crafts they do there. Is there anyplace anyone can recommend for me?
I have looked at Munchkinland since it is right down the block from my house and it looked fine, however, I would love some feedback on it if anyone has any. I think I am also close to Tutor Time on Hemp. Tpke.
Any information or help would be REALLY helpful here since I am TOTALLY stressing out about this.
Thanks-
John

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
That really *****. When I first read your email, I actually diasgreed with you trying to get out of paying since kids get sick all the time and it would be impossible for them accomodate everyone who complained, but when I re-read it and you mentioned the other child is always sick and attends, I changed my mind.
I would definitely bring up that fact that this other kid is always sick and they never send her/him home. That is not right. I got a call from my day care a couple weeks ago bc my daughter spit up a lot and they said if she did it again I would have to come pick her up. I know my baby and she spits up a lot, she's not sick so I was like when they called me, but I am glad that when they think a child is sick they are very proactive and try to get the sick kid out ASAP.
I live in Bethpage, but I use a daycare in Syosset. It's about an 8 minute drive for me. I have visited a few in the area - one being Miss Debbie's in Plainview which I absolutely loved but I needed a place that stayed open til 7.
Good Luck!!

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
when i was looking for daycare most of the places i went to told me if my daughter had a fever over 100 or was throwing up that I have to leave her home, i am surprised that your daycare doesn't have that same policy...
I wish i could help, but i decided to go with a private at home babysitter.

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
Most centers make you pay your tuition whether your child is in attendance or not...
Its a business, just because you choose to keep your child home doesn't mean the general expenses to keep the building up and running don't continue...You are contracted to a weekly/monthly price- correct?
Its like a car payment... every month your payment is due, if you decide you don't need your car that month, does that mean you don't pay?
With that said- what you should be fighting with them about is a health care policy... Children should not be able to attend if ill, and the teachers should be disinfecting the classroom and toys daily to prevent the spread of germs..

ITA- same with my daycare. I would fight their sick child policy.

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
That does stink- if this other child was sick they (the daycare people) should have spoken to the parents of the other child regarding that issue and the fact that the child was going to expose her/his germs to others in the daycare.
I really hope that they would make an exception with you having to pay for lost time- it's flat out unfair.

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
I am a Day Care owner and operator and I must tell you it is tough on both sides, however I would have definitely met you half way!!! But I wouldn’t have had to simply because I would not let a constantly sick child in my Day Care as my own children are here as well!! FYI every legally operating Day Care MUST have a sick policy to protect the other clients!!!!
Give me a call if you need further assistance!!! I am also having an open house April 30th if you are interested in coming!!! Take care, Denise 516 731 4244

Re: Daycare Drama! HELP!
My daughter curently goes to bright horizons in woodbury. Its a great place, very clean and lots of room. They have 4 infant rooms, and class rooms for when they get older. They keep my daughter busy all day. She is only 8 months and looks foward to go. They even take them out side on nice days in a large stroller type. I highly recommend this center. Below is the link,
