Cannes & Monaco (and a little bit of Dublin)
I went to Ireland to visit my mom and we made a side trip to France. We flew Aer Lingus from Dublin to Nice and stayed at an apartment my brother has about 2o minutes from Cannes.
The airfare was EUR 6 each way - many eurpoean airlines have dirt cheap flights within europe. there are hidden costs and extra fees and taxes, but its still very reasonable.
travel from the airport was only eur 2 to the apartment on the bus. We did all our travelling on public transport which was super cheap and clean.
I used my high school french and was somewhat surpirsed how much I actually needed it, many people didn't speak english.
we visited Cannes and really just strolled around the town, which was goegeous. We had dinner at an outdoor restaurant on the beach
we also went to Monaco and toured Prince Alberts Palace and watched the changing of the guard. we walked around Monte Carlo, but did't go to the casinos we did see some awesome yachts in the marina
I actually found France to be less expensive than Dublin. Between the poor dollar and the high cost of living in Dublin, I found everything very expensive...lunch in Dublin for 3 (3 soups, sandwiches, 2 glasses of wine and a pot of tea) was EUR 49 = $70. In France, dinner for 2 with a half bottle of wine was EUR 23
here are some photos
