Short Story Unit

Hi Ladies,

I would like to do a fun short story unit... any ideas or suggestions?

I have stories from Highlights and other sources... was just wondering if anyone had some good opening or closing activities or some fun ideas to spice it up?

I teach special ed. 5th grade, so stories on a 4th grade level would be best!

TIA!!!

you can also teach point of view w/steck-vaughn series books that are 2 sided - i have the 3 billy goats gruff on 1 side and just a friendly old troll on the other - they can work on author's purpose, tone, pov, etc...

I do an author study with Chris VanAllsburg too.

Are you open to doing a short story unit with an author study?

Re: Short Story Unit

VanAllsburg has great picture books.
I do predicting with The Wretched Stone.
I love Two Bad Ants for perspective and I like The Widow's Broom.
Also The Stranger and The Sweetest Fig.

I also do an author study on Patricia Polacco. I have lots of stuff for her too.
She is great for 4th grade.
I did more with her than VanAllsburg... if you ever need anything, FM!!
