If your allergies are so bad that nothing helps..
I've taken Zyrtec, Claritin, benedryl... you name it, nothing is working. I always have been allergic to pollen since I was a little girl. It only lasts about a month for me, but the month of May is like torture. I am seriously considering making an appointment with an allergist and inquiring about shots. Does anyone here get shots for their allergies? Can you recommend your allergist? TIA

Re: If your allergies are so bad that nothing helps..
growing up I had the WORST allergies - I ended up with multiple sinus infections and bronchitis from them every year - I ended up with sinus surgery which has helped a bit - but I do still get them - just now they are able to drain better.
Honestly I am one who doesn't think the shots work. I did them for a long time when I was in 8th grade and I don't think they really helped me. - Having said that - I do have friends who were helped by them. But they are a PITA to have to get and get - if I remember correctly you go like once a week for a few months - then once every two weeks -for a while, than once a month etc.

Re: If your allergies are so bad that nothing helps..
I also have terrible allergies. Some days it's so bad I have to stay home from work. I've considered the shots, but I know a couple of people who tried them and hated them. One of my best friends is a doctor with terrible allergies, and even he gave up after a few months - they were a PITA and didn't seem to help at all, and he got sick of waiting it out.
I take Claritin every 24 hours whether I have symptoms or not, and when allergy season really hits, I take Singulair in combination with the Claritin. It's not 100%, but it's so much better for me than just the Claritin. Try talking to your doc about that, maybe?

Try Astelin!
I take Xyzal, Singulair and Astelin, and sometimes Allegra too.
For OTC, try Zyrtec! That helped me for many years!
I have a GREAT allergy doctor in Wantagh!
ETA: When you come in from being in pollen or especially at night, doa sinus rinse. It gets all of the crap out of your nose. If I'm out in the garden, and I come right in and shower and doa sinus rinse, I'm pretty much ok!
ETA 2: NeilMed Sinus Rinse
Same idea/company as netipot, but this is better since there is a little more pressure. Netipot is for people who can't handle the normal sinus rinse.
