Doctors

Hi Girls..

Did you guys all have to see a high risk doctor with your twins? At what week did you start to see one?

I have to see a high risk doctor every week on top of my normal doctor... I was just wondering if this was normal practice.
They told me that nothing is wrong but they just like to be safe.

TIA!

Re: Doctors

Hi,

I'm pg w/ twins and I do go to one, but not every week. In the beginning, I was doing sonos there every 2-3 weeks and now I go every 2 weeks for preterm labor checks - I'm 24 weeks now. I go to my regular OB every 4 weeks on top of that.

Hope that helps!! I know the drs appts can get annoying, but part of me feels I'd rather be safe and monitored as I'm a big wimp!!

Re: Doctors

I transferred to a high risk ob-gyn doc in a practice that delivers the most multiples on LI. He is very experienced in very risky/difficult cases... recently delivered the identical triplets from Huntington... many other ob's told that mom to abort as all three babies were sharing a placenta... he took on the case. I didn't see an ob and another high-risk doc, just a high risk ob.

I was referred to him when I was released by my RE. I first saw him at 7.5 weeks.

Visits were bi-monthly until the third trimester and then they were weekly and then twice a week from week 36-38.

ETA: I had a very uneventful pregnancy, thankfully... it's just that due to my age, IVF and multiples, I was automatically classified as high risk.

No, I stayed with my OB-GYn throughout the pregnancy after I graduated from my RE.

Re: Doctors

I started going to a high-risk doctor at 24 weeks after they found that I had a shortened cervix. I then went to them as often as I went to my OB, and from then on, that is where I had all of my sonograms done.

Re: Doctors

my doc is recommending that i start to see one once a month. Her reasoning is that the high risk doctor will "know" me, in case I need him down the road.

ETA: kind of a pain in the butt, between the regular doctor visits being every 2 weeks, i'm finidng it hard enough to schedule those appts, work full time and deal with DD!!

Re: Doctors

i go all the time! my appts are 1-3 times a week. Now at 32 weeks they are slowign donw a little. All has been great withy my pg. At 29 weeks i was hosipitalized for 3 days due to contractons but that didnt change the amt of appts and all is well.every single test i took came back with good results. The appts are nothign to worry about.

Re: Doctors

I started going to a high risk doctor at 12 weeks, but my boys shared the same placenta and they had to monitor the blood flow issues with the possibility of TTTS (which happens only in identical twins who share the same placenta). I saw them probably every 2-3 weeks up until 29 weeks and then it was like 2x a week. I also was seeing my reg OB/GYN so the last 6-7 weeks I was going to the doctor like it was my job.

Originally I went for doppler sono's and high tech sono's. Then at the end I went for an hour every weeks for non-stress tests, urine analysis and other tests on top of the sono's.

Re: Doctors

No - I didn't have to go to a high risk doctor - my regular ob/gyn delivered my babies. He didn't consider me a high risk.

Re: Doctors

I immediatly saw a high risk Dr, but then he was only reviewing my sonograms and he worked with my regular OB. Only when there was an issue did I have to make a seperate appoinment with the High Risk Dr, but he was reviewiong my case all along.

When I needed to switch Dr;s becuae of a heart issue with one of my boy's I was seeing that high risk dr every week, this started at 28 weeks, but it took several weeks to finally determine the issues I was having that were determined at the 20 week sonogram.
