In the midst of packing.....my list so far

I have 1 pair of sweatpants and 1 pair of PJ pants, both of which I don't care if they get ruined.

2 strappy tanks to wear underneath

1 nursing bra (maybe 1 regular one too)

1 black fleece "cardigan" with snaps I got at Old Navy on sale to wear over tank tops w/ sweats/pj bottoms.

(BTW, NONE of this matches!!)

1 pair of purple fuzzy slippers with soles so I don't slip (new)

3 pairs of my PG undies, Fruit of the loom size 8's (XL) in funky patterns that I don't mind ruining.

my tube of Lansinoh boobie cream

2 toothbrushes

1 pair of fleece socks ( I plan on a couple pair of regular sox)

Do I need my robe? some people say yes, others say no......

I didn't wear my robe.

I would bring a towel and a pen. My hospital ran out of towels the morning I was checking out and I didn't have a pen and had a bunch of forms (for SS# and birth certificate) to fill out and none of the nurses would lend me a pen. Chat Icon

How exciting, you are getting so close!

What about the baby? Did you pack her some clothes too? I had Frankie in all his own clothes the next morning after he was born.
In regards to the robe, I brought one, but never used it. I never left my room, because the baby was with me 24/7. Well it's coming soon, best of luck.

I second a couple towels.. that way you can take a shower without waiting for them to bring them to you..

I used my robe when I wanted to go to the nursery to peek in on my baby when he wasnt with me.. Im happy I brought it..
If you dont use it, u just dont use it.. but its nice to have just incase..

I also found nightshirts and stuff were more practical then any type of pants.. your bleeding way to heavy to wear pants.. they basicaly have you lying on tons of pads..
for your first night, you should think about wearing just some sort of long nightshirt or nightgown.

thanks Jodi....

I have not worn a nightgown/nightshirt in YEARS...I prefer having my legs covered as I'm a cold blooded person in the winter (with pants, socks, AND slippers). I figured I'd just wear a HUGE pair. I just don't want to flash anyone, ya know?

How about a prepaid calling card to call relatives out of the area, a lot of hospitals will not let you use a cell phone, and a disposable camera to take pics of the baby.

Re: In the midst of packing.....my list so far

Maybe Im the minority...but while I was BFING my sports bra was a life saver..... I have big "knockers" Chat Icon to begin with...and once I started BFing...they needed to be contained....I didnt feel nursing bras...had a whole lot of support...

I NEVER wore my robe....

Bring lots of hair ties...

And one thing I wish I brought was...a midnight snack..... At night I could sleep... or the baby would be up (we roomed together) and Id be sooo hungry and just want something to munch on...

Bring some candy, or chips or something just in case... Your not home... so if you get hungry in the middle of the night..you cant just get up and have a snack...

I am always cold and love to bundle up in the winter too. I had my son January 14th and the first night I was soooo hot that I would have slept naked if I could. I was still in a hospital gown at that point and I remember trying to open it more to cool off so you may want to consider bringing something light just in case.

My other suggestion is that I always tell friends to bring their smaller underwear. I found if they were a little tight they held the pad in better. My hospital had nice pads with good adhesive and awesome gooey stuff you put right on the pad for pain relief (make sure you take some home).

Flip flops for the shower, i wouldnt want to stand in there with all that yucky stuff.
That is something that would be at the top of my list.
Other than that- you seem to have all your bases covered.

Re: In the midst of packing.....my list so far

I packed SOOOO much stuff and ended up wearing NONE of it... I ended up wearing the hospital gown and the hospital stretchy undies the whole time I was there! It was just more convenient and because I had a c-section, for the first couple of days it was AWFUL getting up, let alone changing clothes... as for the robe, that's the only thing I DID use... it came in handy for when I was breastfeeding and wanted to be a little shy, and it was FREEZING in the hospital so I wore it most of the time...

I'd take 2 nursing bras... when your milk comes in it helps to wear a bra, and a nursing bra is best if you're breastfeeding. If you end up having a c-section (hopefully NOT) you'll be in the hospital a coupe of more days than expected so it will come in handy.

Other things I can recommend are:

-Flip flops for the shower
-Boppy pillow (REALLY helped when I was nursing the first few times, especially because of the c-section)
-Music (although I ended up with an epidural, that was 9 hours after laboring on my own without medication. Some relaxing music REALLY helped me get through it)
-Snacks for DH, so he doesn't have to keep running out on you to go munch Chat Icon (and pack a few things for him - toothbrush, some clothes and a sweatshirt in case it's cold in the hospital)
-Breastpads (in case your milk starts overflowing in the hospital Chat Icon )

Just wanted to add, that I did the same thing... I prefer to have pants because I like them and I didn't want to flash everyone... but honestly, by the end of the delivery, you could care less after all the poking and prodding you go through in there! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And, it's kind of inconvenient because every few hours the nurses will come in and check on you and it will be a pain in the butt to keep pulling the pants on and off, especially if you're in some pain

My friend recently recommended breast pads b/c the colostrum and the lansinoh stain everything! I think everyone else covered everything..I have to go finish packing myself.

Re: In the midst of packing.....my list so far

I nursed when I was in the hospital, i felt like my boobs were always out there, easy access! I wore my DH's button down shirts, and my robe. I felt like I was constantly opening and closing my shirt, so I just kind of folded it over to cover myself when I had visitors.
Chapstick is another thing I couldn't live without, I was constantly applying it, my lips were so dry!

Re: In the midst of packing.....my list so far

Definitely bring hair ties. I also didn't use my robe.

I would bring a few more pairs of undies, and I also agree with a night gown.

I had packed 2 pairs of Pants PJ's and my mother made me pack a nightgown (a long one) and I swore I wouldn't wear it- the first day/night I wore the hospital gown but the second day I was so happy to have the nightgown, I would not have been able to wear pants. I changed into pants that night before visiting. I would bring one just in case.
