If you were trained in Wilson, can you please tell me how your experience was. Also, do I have to use a student at school, or can I use someone on the outside.

I have a son who is almost a year, and am having another in November. Am I crazy for wanting to do this this year?

Re: Wilson

two teachers in my building are trained. you can use someone at school if they meet the criteria (i.e. they must be at step 1 for Level I training) or you can use a kid on the outside.

I also know that all of the training is done on-line now, where they used to have classes on site somewhere.

Re: Wilson

I am getting trained in Wilson this year (Level I). It is a commitment...you have to tutor your student for 60 hours during the school year. You must be observed 5 times by a Wilson trainer and complete online training. You really must start in September and end in June because the trainer will need to schedule times to come and see you during the school year. If you are having a baby in November (congratulations by the way!) you might want to hold off until when you come back. It is a lot of work and planning but TOTALLY worth it. I am very glad to be Wilson trained. As a special education teacher, I feel like I am much more prepared to teach reading to children with reading disabilities.
Hope that helps. You can FM me if you have other questions.

Wilson is a reading program geared specifically for students with severe reading disabilities. it can also be used with illiterate adults. It is a DECODING program only, not reading comprehension.

No, it is not offered at colleges. You must take it through the Wilson organization. www.wilsonlanguage.com

the training gives you the certificate to teach wilson reading, whichi s a very specific method. it's not a degree.

I have to be honest I'm not really sure how much it costs because my district is paying. I believe it costs around $1500 to do it yourself. (I could be completely off on that though). I forgot to mention the best part...you get 9 graduate credits for it!! You could always try asking your district to pay for some of it depending on where you are.

Re: Wilson

I am Level 1 trained and currently going for my level 2 training as we speak. YES, it does take a lot of time on the computer, but like someone said you get the graduate credits and they arecheap (although Im all maxed out with them).
Totally worth it. i LOVE teaching it.
