hope this isnt too personal, but
what are you average monthly payments between mortgage, water, oil,etc.,...broken down?
and do you have money left over throughout the month to either save or spend?

Re: hope this isnt too personal, but
Mortgage $1130/month Taxes $800/annually Home insurance $650/annually Gas $86/month Electric $70-90/month Water $150-200/semi-annually DirecTV $70/month Car note $330/month Car insurance $112/month
I got laid off 2 weeks before we closed on our house and don't plan to go back until after I have the baby. But if I was bringing in my normal salary instead of unemployment, we would save a lot more money. We are actually starting to dip into savings bc my DH resigned from his job to do a legal internship this summer and it's a paycut.

Re: hope this isnt too personal, but
Here's mine:
Mortgage-$2400 Taxes-$6100 annually Oil-$250-320 a month in the winter electric-$90-110 a month Home insurance-$700 annually
Hope that helps. we have money left over but not a ton of it! I am a SAHM. Things would probably be easier if I worked but we manage so it's okay.

OMG! Why is your electricity so expensive? I pay $60 in the winter, about $150 in the summer (bc I keep my apt like a meat locker).

Re: hope this isnt too personal, but
We moved off LI to Putnam which is a little less expensive. Because of that, we were able to get something nice without maxing ourselves out.
Luckily, we don't have many expenses so we are able to put away about $750 a month. And we're able to dine out and go to movies. Up here, it's so outdoorsy and those sorts of activities are relatively inexpensive (compared to our old habit of dinners and shows in Manhattan)

Re: hope this isnt too personal, but
Its soo expensive on the island. I cant stand it. My stepbrother is moving to PA b/c he cant afford the house anymore. Its really sad to see so many leaving the island and I hear its only getting worst. and they are building houses on top of houses there is NO privacy for the money we pay too!

Re: hope this isnt too personal, but
Expenses--
Mortgage = $2700/month (this includes taxes and insurance... our new house is going to be only $2400/month though, due to rolling all the profit from this house into it! :) ) Electric = don't remember... it's high in the summer due to central air Gas = $200-$250/month during the coldest months... much lower the rest of the year Water = don't remember... it's really low in my opinion Phone/Cell/DSL package = $120/month (it's really $150 but my employer pays the $30 for my DSL) DirecTV = $50/month Auto insurance = I think about $135/month LIRR passes = $400/month
I think that's it-- we own the car outright, no student loans or CC debt. I think the craziest expense is the LIRR, even more so than the mortgage!!!!

on the other hand, your oil is very low... is that a budget plan?

I knew it... electric hot water heaters are insane with the electric they eat up. And when the tank gets to a certain temp it kicks on again to heat the water whether you are using it ot not. We disconnected ours and use the boiler for hot water, noticed a difference right away. and hotter water too!
