Should I buy a walker?

DD wants to walk all the time! My back is breaking from holding her hands so she can do nonstop laps around the house. I didn't get her a walker but I am wondering if I should. Any feedback on this one? I think I read somewhere that walkers were not the best idea for leg muscle development, but I don't remember where I read this. What are your thoughts on walkers? If you suggest I get one, is there one is particular I should get?

Re: Should I buy a walker?

I can't see which one you posted, but we got DD a walker, a lightweight one...no accidents and she took her first steps at 9 1/2 months and started really walking end of 10 months! I will try and find a pic of it.

Here it is - nice and light and folds up easily. We even used it outside.

Personally, I am not a fan of traditional walkers and I refused to get one for my son. I believe that they are banned in Canada.

My son has a push cart type thing from Little Tikes he uses and loves.

Re: Should I buy a walker?

We actually got our from my sister in law who got it from her in-laws, so I'm not sure where they bought it....sorry.

ETA: I also had my reservations about letting DD have one (in response to the whole banned in Canada thing), but then realized I used one all the time as a kid and am absolutely fine!

they are banned in Canada you cannot buy them anywhere....we have the sit in stand toy for when DD is old enough...she can walk behind it holding onto it or it goes down and she can sit on it to ride it around

This is the one we had
DD loved it - and no issues here!
She also took her first steps and 9 1/2 months and was walking by 10 months.

The kid I babysit for loves it too!

We have this one and both kids did wonderfully with it.

Walkers get a bad rap for some reason. Perhaps there was some accidents with them because the parents were not watching their children like they were supposed to. If you are keeping a watchful eye on your child, there will be no problems. It's just like people who leave the Bumbo on a table and then blame the product when their child fell over.

We have the same one. I have seen it at BRU. My nieces and nephews were all early walkers and all of them used a walker. I can't wait for my DS to be old enough to use this. I am sure he will love it!

We got ours at BRU. It also has a little stopper thing in the front so they can't go over the thing in the doorway for stairs, etc...of course if they go full speed they probably can go over it, but my DD never was wild in it.

I found it gave her the freedom she wanted, since she hated just sitting around and safety at the same time and me my arms back to do other stuff.Chat Icon

I used the same one from Babies R Us for both my DDs who loved it. We had/have no problems with it and it gives them some freedom to move around and explore.

Well Said...I agree. My DS used the same one and loved the freedom to follow us around. I used one when I was a kid and I am responsible enough to realize when a walker and a situation could be dangerous.

We have this one too and DD loves it! We have gates up so she will not go down the stairs in it. It also has a guard underneath the frame of it making really hard for her to go over the saddles in between rooms.

My ped said absolutely no walkers that you put the children into - he has seen a lot of accidents (even when the parents are watching the children closely).

What about a push type walker - like this? - the seat goes down and they can ride on it

DD loves to ride and push this around - she tries to carry it around too sometimes. DD was using hers at 9 months:
