Is this true or myth??

Do you think its true that if you have morning sickness that means you are less likely to miscarry? Also, if you are lacking progesterone, can this be the reason for not getting any morning sickness?

Re: Is this true or myth??

I'm not sure there's any evidence of this. Morning sickness varies with each and every woman.

Morning sickness(extreme nausea in my case) started about week 6-7.

My progesterone is fine and I haven't experienced too much sickness...sometimes in the afternoon and evening but it passes pretty quickly.

Re: Is this true or myth??

I am not sure if it is a myth or not. If your progesterone is low - you can miscarry - that is why they put me on suppositories - to make my progesterone higher. Since I took them for my entire 1st trimester, my progesterone levels were maintained. The doctors and other girls told me that all of the pregnancy symptoms will intensified while taking supplements for progesterone.
I did NOT get sick once. So I am not sure if progesterone has anything to do with it.

I do not think it is a myth, I think women with morning sickness are less likely to miscarry.

Agreed, it is a medical fact, although sometimes woman with MS do miscarry, but it is usualy some other genetic abnormaility. The sicker the better as my doc says!

No, I think it's a myth. Depends on hormone levels...

I think if you have m/s it is a good sign because your preganancy are high, but that DOESN"T mean if you don't have m/s that you are more likely to miscarry. I think only about 50% of women have m/s. I didn't really have m/s and everything has been fine.

I think it's a myth as well. 50% of women get m/s and that is the ones with healthy pregnancies.
My doctor says you should be happy if you have no m/s... I had none and so far so good. I know plenty of others who had none too.
I also know people who had m/s and miscarried.

Re: Is this true or myth??

it is INDEED a medical fact ladies. Your chances of miscarrying are much lower if you have MS and the sicker you are, the higher your #'s. There was a huge article in fitpregnancy last year on this and I just read this in one of my nursing books concentrated in obstetrics.

Re: Is this true or myth??

If it is not a myth then it's a scary one. I have not had M/S and I hope it doesn't mean I will miscarry or have problems.

I'm already going through a scare from AFP level results and now i'm waiting for amnio results. My preliminary are ok so i'm hoping for good final results.

This is all I need to hear...Chat Icon

Plenty of women don't have any m/s and have perfectly healthy babies.

I agree. I had VERY mild MS and my HCG and progesterone levels were high. I had a healthy son in November.

Re: Is this true or myth??

I had no MS and I M/C in Sept. I do somewhat believe it but either way there is nothing you can do about it. I read that the lower your hormone level the less MS and the later the implantation- which can be related to M/C(I posted something about this the other day)If you have low progesterone be your own advocate. call your Dr and insist they prescribe it for you! I wish I had known then what I've learned now. I had to switch Dr's during my M/C because my Dr was just not proactive enough. I have already told my new DR that when I get pregnat again I will be getting a progesterone level. I never even got this-who knows maybe my MC could have been prevented? Most M/C are not preventable except for ones involving low progesterone and blood clotting problems. Both of these can be fixed by your dr. My friend got IVF and was on progesterone for 12 weeks and is now 6 mos with healthy twin girls

Re: Is this true or myth??

I believe its a myth

While I do not deny that its considered a 'good thing" to have M/S when you are PG.. I happened to have VERY BAD M/S for the 3 months I was PG, only to lose the pregnancy at 13 weeks anyhow (a missed M/C.. and I would have never known I lost the pregnancy unleess a sonogram was not done at that time.. as I still had the M/S up until the day I was told of our loss)

Let me also add that my progesterone levels were 'borderline' at one point during the pregnancy and I was given supplements at 8 weeks.. but even before I was given the supplements to take, I was still having rampant M/S.. so for me the lack of progesterone was not a factor , I was still sick as a dawg.. (and let me also add that the fact I lost the pregnancy had little to do with a progesterone issue.. it was a chromosonal abnormality in my baby's case that I could have done NOTHING to prevent )

So there is really no 'set rule' on whether M/S is an indication of a healthy , viable pregnancy or not. I happen to know soo many ladies who are not sick whatsoever and go onto have beautiful babies

Try not to to worry, though I know that is hard! Good LuckChat Icon

Re: Is this true or myth??

Ladies without ms don't get scared!

Just becasue you do not have it it does not mean your chances of miscarrying are higher, no morning sickness does not effect chances.

They just have done studies that show women with MS have less miscarriages.

I had pretty mild MS.

Re: Is this true or myth??

I saw on some special on TV they said some DRs do believe that the more MS you have the less likly you are to miscarry. Its been shown to be true, but in the end doesnt mean all that much at all.

Re: Is this true or myth??

I would say its a myth....but I had extremely bad m/s! it started about my 6th week, and didnt end till my 16 week, I thought I was going to die it was so bad, my mom told me that means my baby is very healthy and its good to have m/s.
I dont know, but I have friends who had very little m/s and there babies were healthy. It depends on the person.
